What is the Taj Mahal? Detailed answer Directory / Big encyclopedia. Questions for quiz and self-education Did you know? What is the Taj Mahal? The Taj Mahal Palace is a love story, sad and beautiful at the same time. Three centuries ago, there lived a ruler in India named Shah Yahan. His beloved wife was the beautiful and intelligent Mumtazi Mahal, whom Shah Yahan loved more than life itself. Her abbreviated name is Taj Mahal, which means "Pride of the Palace". She died in 1630. The ruler was so shocked by the death of his beloved that he decided to leave his throne. As a sign of inconsolable love for his wife, he decided to build a tomb of unprecedented beauty. He called together the best artists, architects from India, Turkey, Persia, Arabia to create a project. Finally he was ready. More than 20 thousand people have been working on its implementation for 18 years. The Taj Mahal tomb is still one of the most beautiful buildings in the world today. The building stands on a marble platform with an area of 29 square meters and a thickness of 6-7 meters. In each of the four corners towers-minarets rose. The Taj Mahal itself rises up to 61 meters. The building is made of white marble and decorated with twelve types of semi-precious stones in the form of a floral ornament, as well as sayings from the Koran. They were lined with black marble. Building material was brought from many countries, including Arabia, Egypt, Tibet and various parts of India. The ruler wanted to build exactly the same tomb of black marble for himself on the other side of the river and connect them with a silver bridge. However, this was not destined to come true. The son of the ruler imprisoned his father shortly before the construction of the Taj Mahal tomb was completed. And the rest of his days, Shah Yahan could only look out of the window across the river at the tomb of his beloved. Author: Likum A. Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia: Who has screwed horns? Markhorn goat is a representative of artiodactyl animals, like mountain sheep. It lives in the Himalayas and in Tibet, and feeds on grass and leaves. Mountain goats are stocky, densely built looking at them, it is immediately clear that, unlike their relatives, mountain sheep, they are not capable of very fast running. Indeed, mountain goats live where the rocks in which the animals hide and rest are combined with the lawns where they go out to graze. Mountain goats in danger rely not so much on the speed of their legs, but on the extraordinary ability to climb and gallop over the most incredible steeps. On steep talus, where the slightest careless movement of unstable stones begin to move, threatening to drag along a landslide, the goats feel easy and confident. Using the slightest ledges of rocks, they overcome almost sheer slopes, moving equally freely both up and down.
