What was the first movie?

The most amazing thing in the history of the development of cinema is that the first discoveries in this area were made by people who were not interested in cinema itself: they just wanted to study the movements of animals.

Even Thomas Edison, who perfected the so-called "kinetoscope" in 1893, thought of it as fun. But there were many other people who, seeing great opportunities for entertainment in these discoveries, began to make films.

In the beginning it was just shooting something moving: waves of the surf, running horses, children frolicking, trains arriving at the station. The first film to have a plot was released at Edison Labs in 1903. It was The Great Train Robbery and it caused a national sensation.

The first fixed theater in the United States opened in November 1905 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was beautifully decorated. The owners called it "cinema" ("cinema" - "cinema"). Soon other cinemas were opened all over the country.

One of the most famous early film directors and producers was the former actor D. Griffith. He was the first to move the camera during the filming of the scene, and also improved the technique of editing, discovered close-ups and much more in the art of cinema. In 1914, Griffith directed The Birth of a Nation, one of the most spectacular films of all time. This Civil War film cost over $750 and was the most expensive film made up to that time.

Hollywood became the movie capital after Cecil deMille and Jess Laskey started filming a movie there called "Indian Woman's White Husband". Soon, other film companies began to move to Hollywood. The development of modern cinema is rapidly gaining momentum.

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

What insects are able to make spiders build an unusual web?

Parasitic riders of the species Hymenoepimecis argyraphaga are able to paralyze spiders and lay eggs on their abdomen. After hatching, the larvae of the parasite begin to suck the blood of the spider, which continues its usual life. However, before pupation, the larvae inject chemicals into the victim's body that change the behavior of the spider in such a way that it begins to build highly reinforced strands of its web in several layers. Turning into a chrysalis, the rider kills the spider with poison and forms a cocoon, which needs reinforced threads to hold on weight.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

tissue that kills viruses 05.02.2021

American scientists design tissue capable of destroying viruses. The study aims to create safer medical clothing for healthcare workers.

The project is headed by Patricia Dolez. Her goal is to develop a textile treatment that kills viruses, including COVID-19, on contact: "We are developing something that will make the fabric self-disinfecting."

Building on existing technology, scientists are trying to adapt a chemical used to disinfect swimming pools to treat textiles. This chemical is sensitive to light, so Dolez and colleagues want to make it a light-resistant compound that can be applied to fabric. At the same time, so that protective clothing does not lose its properties after washing and can be reused.

A new chemical compound will break the chain of cross-contamination: "Imagine a person not infecting anyone, even himself, by touching his mask. Bacteria or a virus will die on contact with the tissue and can no longer cause harm." This means there is minimal chance of spread and infection between healthcare workers themselves and their patients.

The Canadian company Logistik Unicorp, which supplies workwear and works with military uniforms, is interested in the promising development of scientists and said it would develop partnerships to bring the finished product to the stage of production and commercialization.
