The collision of black holes

Scientists from the Institute for Gravitational Physics of the Max Planck Society (Germany) simulated on a computer the process of meeting and merging of two black holes: a small fast-moving and a large one moving slowly.

The simulation showed that after the collision, the resulting "common" black hole has an elongated shape at first and flies with a reduced speed in the direction in which the big one was moving.
