In 2003, the inhabitants of the US state of New Mexico had a new annual holiday. The State Congress approved the proposal of the deputy from the town of Roswell to celebrate the Day of Culture of Extraterrestrial Civilizations on the second Tuesday of February every year.

The town is known for the fact that, according to rumors, a crashed UFO and the body of its pilot have been stored at the local air base since 1947.
