Accounting and control

Lenin V.I.
Lenin V.I.

Phraseologism: Accounting and control.

Meaning: About the desire to put things in order somewhere (in distribution, production of something, etc.) (jokingly ironic).

Origin: From the work "State and Revolution" (August - September, 1917) by V. I. Lenin (1870-1924): "Accounting and control is the main thing that is required for [...] the correct functioning of the first phase of a communist society." The slogan "Accounting and control" was also repeatedly repeated by V. I. Lenin in the article "How to Organize a Competition" (December, 1917).

Random phraseology:

Moth poetry.

Meaning:

Unprincipled art.

Origin:

The expression of M. E. Saltykov-Shchedrin. In an ironic review of "Poems" by Karolina Pavlova, published in No. 6 of Sovremennik, 1863, ridiculing her as a representative of "art for art's sake," Shchedrin wrote: and the most gullible of insects, and it comes in a straight line from the famous song about the siskin, then passes through Prince Shalikov and Mr. Shevyrev and ends with Mrs. Pavlova. All this poetry is nothing but a poetic application of pleasant manners to accidentally encountered objects ... She [Pavlova] does not care whoever she turns to, no matter what she sings, because it is not the objects of the outside world that strike her, but she strikes the objects of the outside world with the haberdashery of her address. Shchedrin called the unprincipled poetry he ridiculed "moth-like", referring to K. Pavlova's poem "Moth". In his review of A. N. Pleshcheev's "New Poems" ("Contemporary", 1864, No. 1), he again speaks of the "moth school" of poetry, referring Fet, Pavlova and other representatives of "pure art" to it. After Shchedrin, the epithet "butterfly" began to be ironically applied, in addition to poetry, to other areas of art and science.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. Gravitational lamps work without the mains 31.01.2019

The Gravity Lamp is the brainchild of London-based inventors Jim Reeves and Martin Riddiford. Its device uses a simple system of levers and weights to drive a miniature electrical generator. The new device is designed to help 1,3 billion people living in remote and poor regions without a developed electricity grid.

The peculiarity of the device lies in the fact that GravityLight does not require the usual sources of energy to operate. The light bulb burns thanks to a weight of 12 kg, which must be hung on a special hook. The load will gradually lower under its own weight, providing the lamp with energy for a little over 20 minutes. After that, you must repeat the operation so that the light comes on again. In fact, the device implements the same principle of operation as in a conventional watch with weights.

The developers of the device are confident that it will find wide application in poor African countries. The first prototype of the device was tested in 26 different countries last year and received high praise from the first users. According to the creators, the "gravitational" light bulb will not only bring light to homes, but will also allow many families to significantly save on the purchase of kerosene for lighting. The authors of the project pay special attention to Kenya: in this country they plan to establish an enterprise for the production of GravityLight lamps.
