Birthright

Bible
Bible

Phraseologism: Birthright.

Meaning: Currently, the expression is used in the meaning of the pre-emptive right of the person who did, created something first.

Origin: From the Bible. As it is said in the Old Testament (Genesis, 25:31-34), hungry Esau, the eldest of the twin sons of the patriarch Isaac, sold his birthright to his younger brother Jacob for lentil soup, that is, special rights (in particular, the right to inherit parental property) , which, according to ancient custom, was received by the first-born boy in the family. Hence the two derivative expressions - "sell the birthright" (sell, for example, your copyright, the right to pre-emptive ownership of something) and "sell for lentil stew" (give up something important for an insignificant benefit, actually give it away, squander , let it go to the wind).

Random phraseology:

I am writing to you - what more? What else can I say?

Meaning:

About the recognition of a woman by a man.

Origin:

From the novel in verse "Eugene Onegin" (1823-1831) by A.S. Pushkin (1799-1837) (ch. 3, stanza 31). The opening lines of Tatyana's letter to Onegin.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Jaguar InControl Multimedia Center 30.08.2014

Automotive Corporation Jaguar Land Rover spoke about the new InControl multimedia center, which will debut in the Jaguar XE sports sedan. In the future, the device, which, according to the developers, was created from scratch, will appear in other cars of the British brand.

The InControl infotainment system is equipped with an 8-inch touch screen, with which you can control the functions of not only the infotainment itself, but also a mobile device based on iOS and Android. As part of the integration of smartphones with automotive electronics promised by the manufacturer, the control of mobile applications will be duplicated on the screen of the on-board complex. Thus, from the inside of the car it will be possible, for example, to book hotel rooms or look for free places in the nearest parking lots, Jaguar noted.

Using the gadget and the special InControl Remote program, drivers will be able to remotely lock the doors, start the engine, adjust the operation of the air conditioner, search for a car in the parking lot, call emergency services, etc. The multimedia center supports wireless connection of several devices to access the Internet using Wi- fi.

System capabilities can be extended with third-party programs that can be downloaded separately. Perhaps the automaker will offer its own catalog of applications, like the BMW ConnectedDrive Store, which hosts customers for Facebook, Twitter, Pandora, Mog, Aupeo, Rhapsody, TuneIn and others. BMW owners can pay for purchases in the online store right in the car. To do this, the Bavarian automaker began equipping its vehicles with SIM cards with Internet access.

In addition to the next-generation infotainment system, the Jaguar XE will receive a Head-Up Display laser projection screen that allows you to display vehicle speed data, on-board computer readings and navigation tips on the windshield.

The official premiere of the Jaguar XE sedan is scheduled for September 8, 2014. In this car, the company will use electric power steering and an electronic system that simulates a differential lock for the first time in its history. The novelty will go on sale in 2015.
