The Hall effect was discovered in 1879 by the American scientist Edwin Herbert Hall. Its essence is as follows (see figure).

Hall effect

If a current is passed through a conducting plate, and a magnetic field is directed perpendicular to the plate, then a voltage will appear on the plate in the direction transverse to the current (and the direction of the magnetic field):

Uh = (RhHIsinw)/d,

where Rh is the Hall coefficient depending on the material of the conductor; H is the magnetic field strength; I - current in the conductor; w is the angle between the current direction and the magnetic field induction vector (if w = 90°, sin w = 1); d is the thickness of the material.

Due to the fact that the output effect is determined by the product of two quantities (H and I), Hall sensors have a very wide application [1].

The table shows the Hall coefficients for various metals and alloys. Designations: T - temperature; B - magnetic flux; Rh - Hall coefficient in units of m3/C.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Mini air conditioner Sony Reon Pocket 5 09.05.2024

Summer is a time for relaxation and travel, but often the heat can turn this time into an unbearable torment. Meet a new product from Sony - the Reon Pocket 5 mini-air conditioner, which promises to make summer more comfortable for its users. Sony has introduced a unique device - the Reon Pocket 5 mini-conditioner, which provides body cooling on hot days. With it, users can enjoy coolness anytime, anywhere by simply wearing it around their neck. This mini air conditioner is equipped with automatic adjustment of operating modes, as well as temperature and humidity sensors. Thanks to innovative technologies, Reon Pocket 5 adjusts its operation depending on the user's activity and environmental conditions. Users can easily adjust the temperature using a dedicated mobile app connected via Bluetooth. Additionally, specially designed T-shirts and shorts are available for convenience, to which a mini air conditioner can be attached. The device can oh ... >>

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

Cultural peculiarities of perception appear by the age of two 28.02.2016

There is no need to tell once again how our individual experience affects perception: how we see the world around us depends on where we live, with whom we communicate, with whom we work, what we read, etc. People are more or less meticulous, inclined to introspection, are familiar with this from personal experience, in addition, psychologists have repeatedly studied what can be somewhat informally called cultural distortions of consciousness.

But when does this influence begin? Researchers from Northwestern University, along with Chinese colleagues, conducted the following experiment: 2-year-old children from the USA and China were shown a video with some kind of repetitive action - for example, they watched a girl petting a dog. Then the video changed a little: the girl either stroked the pillow instead of the dog, or she now didn’t stroke the same dog, but kissed it. That is, either a new object appeared, or the object remained the same, but the action changed.

Children paid attention to different things: two-year-old Chinese were more interested in a new action (that is, they looked more closely at a girl who suddenly started kissing a dog), and Americans were more interested in a new object (they looked at a video with a pillow).

It is known from earlier experiments that adult Chinese and Americans manage attention differently: if the former mainly look at the context in which the object is located, at the events in which it is involved, then the latter, on the contrary, are mostly interested in the object itself, regardless of the environment.

Also, studies of past years have revealed that American parents teach their children to engage in objects more in games, while the Japanese and Chinese emphasize the relationship between objects in children's games. Finally, it is known that by the age of seven months, children are able to follow someone else's gaze, that is, they may well understand what their parents and other people are looking at, and at the age of one year, the child already distinguishes between an "object" and an "action", "object" and "event" that happened to it.

In other words, we can conclude with a high degree of certainty that the cultural characteristics of the environment already by the age of two begin to influence psychology - at least the psychology of perception. On the other hand, the difference in attention in both children's groups was not too great, from which we can conclude that "objects" and "actions" at this age have not yet completely diverged.
