Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

A Stimulated Brain Works More Efficiently 13.04.2012

Scientists from the University of Sydney have experimentally proven that non-invasive brain stimulation can solve problems that a person could not cope with before.

The experiment used the famous puzzle: nine dots that need to be connected to each other using only four straight lines and without lifting the pen from the page. Surprisingly, research over the past century has shown that almost no one can solve this puzzle. However, scientists from the University of Sydney showed that more than 40% of people were able to solve the nine-dot puzzle after 10 minutes of safe, non-invasive brain stimulation.

Stimulation consists in inhibition of the left anterior temporal lobe of the brain and simultaneous excitation of the right anterior temporal lobe using transcranial direct current stimulation. This technology has been successfully used in the past to enhance comprehension and improve memory in the short term.

According to scientists, their unique method of brain stimulation will give people the opportunity to perform the most complex mental work that is not available in the normal state. Of course, transcranial stimulation is temporary and does not improve brain function "forever", but even short-lived "flashes of genius" can lead to outstanding results.
