Engineers of human souls

Stalin I.V.
Stalin I.V.

Phraseologism: Engineers of human souls.

Meaning: Usually about writers of the Soviet era (jokingly-iron.).

Origin: Usually attributed to I. V. Stalin, since he used this expression (October 26, 1932) at a meeting with Soviet writers in the house of Maxim Gorky. But Stalin only repeated the statement he liked by the famous Soviet writer Yuri Karlovich Olesha (1899-1960) and thus officially introduced these words into the circle of popular expressions of his time. It is no coincidence that, using this image, Stalin sometimes clarified: "As Comrade Olesha aptly put it..."

Random phraseology:

Someone's case has been blown.

Meaning:

Someone won, achieved his goal, arranged everything.

Origin:

The expression is associated with legal proceedings, namely with situations where court cases were lost as a result of a fire, often deliberately arranged, for bribes of the suing. Then the guilty could not be punished, but the right could not be justified.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Insects are disappearing in the world 19.10.2018

Scientists from the United States and Mexico have identified a noticeable decline in the number of insects in the rainforest of the El Yunque National Reserve (Puerto Rico). This reflects a global trend that threatens food security around the world as arthropods are needed to pollinate many crops.

Also, experts pay attention to the fact that insectivorous plants and animals, in particular birds and frogs, disappear along with insects. Experts fear that as a result of this process, food chains will collapse, and this will cause irreparable damage to ecosystems.

Among the reasons for the extinction of populations, scientists call the destruction of the natural habitat of insects by humans. Another threat is the use of pesticides in agriculture. Experts consider global warming to be the main reason.
