Focus Description:

Give the hat and "magic wand" to the audience for inspection. Having received them back, turn the hat on a stick, thereby proving once again that the hat has no secrets (Fig. a).

Focus through the hat
а

Then, stopping the rotation, calmly, as if nothing had happened, pass the wand through the hat and again pass both objects for inspection.

Focus secret:

You only made it appear that the "magic wand" was passing through the hat, but in fact it passed from the outside on the opposite side from the audience.

Having stopped the rotation, you brought your left hand from below to the hat and with your thumb pressed the brim of the hat to its crown (fig. b) so that the thumb of your left hand was on your side and was not facing the audience. After that, without releasing the grip, you brought your right hand to the bottom of the hat.

Without releasing the "magic wand", you intercept the hat with your right hand from your left (Fig. c) so that the thumb of your right hand, while holding the wand, presses the brim of the hat to the crown. At the same moment, the left hand, inserted inside the hat, grabs it from the inside so that the brim of the hat, covering the thumb of the right hand, closes with each other around this thumb.

Focus through the hat

Next, your right hand with the "magic wand" is moved to the side, and then the wand is brought from below to the hat and directed into the hole between the brim of the hat, which is formed with the help of the left hand, which captured the hat from the inside. This made it possible for the left hand to grasp and hold for some time the inserted stick (Fig. d). Having released the wand from below with your right hand, you bring your right hand from above to it, grab it and insert it vertically upwards (Fig. e).

It will seem to the audience as if the "magic wand" actually went through the hat.

The focus should be fun, dynamic, with a smile. The only obligatory condition is that the hat must be soft, otherwise the trick will not work.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Chlamydomonas as a draft force 04.12.2005

Biologists from Harvard University (USA) made the single-celled alga Chlamydomonas carry heavy loads.

Algae, moving with the help of two flagella, swim towards the light. Near the light source, the experimenters placed polystyrene beads coated with a special adhesive that decomposes under ultraviolet light.

When the chlamydomonas touches the ball, it sticks to the algae. The light is turned off and a new beacon is lit at the other end of the aquarium. When chlamydomonas with a load, the mass of which can reach the mass of the cell itself, swims up to the light, they give a flash of ultraviolet light. The load is peeling off. The light is turned on again at the other end of the path, and the empty seaweed is sent for a new load.

So far, this is just an interesting experiment, but in the future, chlamydomonas may serve as assemblers of nanotechnological devices.
