Griboyedov A.S.

Phraseologism: You, the current ones, come on!

Meaning: As a reproach and at the same time a challenge to the younger generation on behalf of the older one: can the youth do something worthy in their lives, as the old people did (iron.).

Origin: From the comedy "Woe from Wit" (1824) by A. S. Griboyedov (1795-1829). Famusov's words addressed to Chatsky (act. 2, yavl. 2).

Random phraseology:

Country husband.

Meaning:

A husband who, living in the city, almost daily travels out of town to the country where his family rests. At the same time, he carries provisions there, fulfills the orders of summer residents, runs around shops, etc., in a word, he receives a lot of trouble and torment from such a "dacha life" (joking, ironic).

Origin:

As the memoirist A.R. Kugel reports in his "Literary Memoirs" (Byloe. 1923. No. 21), the expression belongs to the novelist Ivan Shcheglov (pseudonym of Ivan Leontievich Leontiev, 1856-1911), who called this collection of his stories (1888). Later, a similar expression is found in the stories of A.P. Chekhov, thanks to whom it became widely known.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Orbital ring around the earth 24.11.2019

If you build a ring around the Earth, it seems that gravity will pull it towards the center of the Earth from all sides with the same force, which will allow the ring to "float" above the surface.

But the problem lies in the inhomogeneity of the Earth's gravitational field and the influence of the gravitational fields of neighboring celestial bodies. Such a structure will have an unstable position, which would lead to its deformation, fall and destruction. The lack of building materials of the required unimaginable strength is also a stumbling block.

When one fragment of the ring moves to the center of the Earth, the force of attraction acting on it increases, and the force acting on the opposite part decreases, so the ring falls, losing stability. That is, a small random fluctuation is enough for the entire structure to collapse.
