Expulsion of the merchants from the temple

Bible
Bible

Phraseologism: The expulsion of merchants from the temple.

Meaning: Expel from somewhere those who are unworthy (or should not by law) be there.

Origin: From the Bible. All four gospels (Matthew 21:12; Mark 11:15; Luke 19:45; John 2:14-15) tell how Jesus came to the temple one day in Jerusalem and saw a crowd of people selling and buying cattle for sacrifices, as well as many money changers. Then he wove a scourge out of the ropes and drove out all the merchants from the temple, so that no one would desecrate the temple either by trading or monetary settlements.

Random phraseology:

Round table.

Meaning:

A symbol of equal negotiations, in which several parties participate, driven by the desire to agree, to find a compromise

Origin:

The creator of the round table is the wizard Merlin from the English legends of the early Middle Ages about King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table (more precisely, the anonymous authors of this epic). One day, the wizard Merlin suggested to the leader of the Britons, Uther (Arthur's father), an idea on how to avoid disputes between his knights over a place of honor at the table of their ruler. He advised Uther to remove the traditionally shaped table from his palace and put a round table in its place, where each knight could feel equal to another. Thus, all discussions about the place of honor would become meaningless. The expression has firmly entered the language of international journalism, for example, "round table talks", etc.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Edible gelatin robot 15.03.2017

Researchers at the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne have published a scientific paper that talks about the creation of gelatin actuators - a technology that could eventually allow the creation of edible robots.

The research is still at an early stage, and the staff of the educational institution does not fully understand how this technology can be useful. In an interview with TechCrunch, Dario Floreano, director of the university's Intelligent Systems Lab, acknowledged that the team may not be operating in a very logical order. The work, presumably, was the result of a desire to create something new - using this mechanism, the researchers did not originally plan to solve some pressing problem.

"A year ago, alumnus and co-author Jun Shintake came to me and said, 'We make all these biological robots, but biological systems are edible and our systems are not,'" Floreano said. "I thought it was interesting. Food and robots have completely different limitations and properties, and before I even thought about what it could be, I thought that seeing if we could combine the two would be a very interesting challenge."

Floreano offered a list of potential uses for edible robots, including food that can move itself from colder to warmer places and vice versa, as well as independently reach a person or animal to feed it. This method could also be used for automated drug delivery.

A similar study last year by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology reported on the creation of an origami robot made from dried pig intestines that is placed in a person's stomach to remove swallowed items like batteries. However, the design of the Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne differs in that its mechanisms are completely digestible and do not require extraction from the human body.

As for the taste qualities of such robots, the existing gelatin prototype has almost none. But the researchers decided to team up with the School of Hotel Management of Lausanne to create mechanisms that would be not only useful, but also tasty.
