Artificial leather for touch emulation
15.04.2024
In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men
14.04.2024
The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>
Random news from the Archive Planet with three suns
19.07.2016
A team of astronomers led by Daniel Apai from the University of Arizona (USA) discovered a planet that occupies a rare position between three stars at once. In a distant world, you can enjoy three sunrises and sunsets at once a day. The discovery was made using a highly sensitive infrared spectrometer, which is part of the Very Large Telescope (European Southern Observatory, Chile).
The planet HD 131399Ab rotates in an extended orbit in the constellation Centaurus. Scientists estimate that it is about 16 million years old, making it one of the youngest exoplanets. The planet is about four times the size of Jupiter. It is approximately 340 light years from Earth.
In addition, HD 131399Ab is one of the coldest exoplanets discovered to date, with its surface heating up to 580 ?C.
According to Kevin Wagner, one of the members of the research team, the planet HD 131399Ab completes half of its orbit in 550 Earth years. All this time, three stars are visible in her sky. For most of the year, two of them converge, providing a night shadow on one side of the planet. However, as the planet moves along its orbit, they diverge so that the sunset of one coincides with the sunrise of the other. HD 131399Ab is in this "permanent day" position for about a quarter of its orbital journey - about 140 Earth years.
At the center of this complex star system is the star HD 131399A, around which the twin stars B and C also rotate. The planet HD 131399A rotates in an orbit twice that of Pluto, the planet most distant from the Sun.
To date, this complex system appears to be fairly stable, the researchers say. However, the slightest change can destabilize it. As shown by a computer study, in this case, the planet can be thrown out of the star system.
