Focus Description:

The performer takes a small sheet of white paper from the table and makes a funky out of it. Taking a glass mug of milk standing right there and chatting it in a mug, he pours milk into a pound. The level of milk in the mug decreases. There was already half, then a quarter of a mug of milk left. Spectators are waiting for the funky to get wet. There is very little milk left in the mug, at the bottom. The performer pours the rest of the milk on the floor and places the mug on the illusion table.

Carefully holding a pound of milk, the performer approaches the ramp and suddenly, right above the heads of the spectators sitting in the front row, quickly unrolls the bag. Gasping in surprise and afraid of being doused with milk, the audience recoils from the performer. But their fear turned out to be in vain: in the hands of the performer there is only a blank sheet of paper, and the milk has disappeared. The performer gives this sheet of paper to the audience for careful study.

Props:

For the trick, you need a small sheet of Whatman paper and a glass mug with a handle with a capacity of 0,5 liters.

Focus secret:

The secret of the trick lies in the fact that the mug is supplied with an additional detail - a conical inner cup made of transparent plastic, a quarter lower than the mug itself. The outer edge of the secret cup is bordered by a tightly fitting thickened ring in the form of a rim made of the same material, 1 cm wide and 2 mm thick. In the wall of this cup there is a hole with a diameter of 3 mm, located 2 mm below the rim.

Departing 1 cm from the edge of the mug, you need to draw on it a gold or silver rim, the width of which will be equal to the width of the rim encircling the secret cup (Fig. 8, A).

Now we can assume that the props for this trick are ready. It remains only to take some milk and a tube of Vaseline (the latter will last for a long time).

Now let's move on to preparing the trick for the demonstration, or, in the language of professionals, we will "charge" the props. First of all, paper is placed on the table. A little more than a quarter of milk is poured into a mug. Then you need to smear Vaseline on the thickened rim of the secret cup. After that, the glass is put into a mug. In this case, you should press on it so that the glass firmly sticks to the inner walls of the mug with its thickened ring, smeared with petroleum jelly - it should coincide with the border of the drawn rim on the mug. The milk, displaced under the pressure of the secret cup, will rise up and fill the space between the outer walls of the secret glass and the inner walls of the mug. The displaced milk, which will be superfluous in the mug and for which there will no longer be room between the walls of the glass and the mug, will exit through the opening of the secret glass and remain inside at the bottom.

If the milk displaces the secret glass from the mug, then it is poured more than necessary. This should be taken into account and carefully checked in advance in order to eliminate the error in a timely manner.

When lowering the secret glass into the mug, it should be remembered that the hole in the glass should be on the side opposite to the handle of the mug. When the mug is "loaded", it is placed on the illusion table next to a sheet of paper so that the handle of the mug is facing the backstage.

A trick demonstration should begin by showing the audience a sheet of paper. Having shown it from both sides, the performer rolls up a pound out of paper. Then he takes a mug from the table and tilts it over the pounder, pretending to pour milk into it. When the mug is tilted over the pounder, the milk gradually leaves through the opening of the secret glass and fills about a quarter of it. When the performer sees that the milk from the space between the walls of the glass and the mug, as well as from its bottom, has gone into the secret glass, he can really pour some milk from the mug onto the floor to be convincing.

Putting the mug in place, the performer with deliberate caution, slowly and seriously, holding the pound with both hands, goes to the first row of the hall and suddenly opens the pound right above the heads of the audience.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

DNA and French cooking 03.05.2004

Real delicacy truffles (and in France truffles from Perigord are considered the best) now cost up to 1000 euros per kilogram.

The rarest white Italian truffles from Piedmont - even up to five thousand. But in recent years, they have been competing on the European market with much cheaper low-quality Chinese truffles, outwardly indistinguishable from real ones even for a specialist. The difference is felt only in the cooked dish.

Chinese mushrooms lend themselves to mass cultivation and cost up to 20 euros per kilogram. Often they are sold under the guise of French. In addition, Chinese truffles pose a danger of ecological aggression: they grow much faster than European ones, and if their spores get into the forest soil, the Chinese species can displace the European one.

The Institute for Agricultural Research in Clermont-Ferrand (France) has developed a simple mushroom DNA test method that can reliably distinguish cheap Chinese from noble truffles. The analysis is recommended for wholesalers when purchasing large quantities of mushrooms.
