Focus Description:

On the stage, a meter apart, there are two tables. On one of them is a sheet of paper (30x80 cm) and two paper clips, on the second - a bright case-case and a "magic" wand. Approaching the second table, the presenter tells the audience: "There is a dice in this bright case", raises the case and under it the audience sees a large black cube with white dots on the edges. Taking a "magic" wand, the artist taps the case from the inside with it, showing that it is empty and has thin walls. Then, holding the stick in a vertical position, he leaves the case hanging on it, and in his other hand he takes a dice and, turning, shows the audience all six of its faces. Having put a dice, a case-case and a wand on the table, the magician moves to the next table.

"Here lies an ordinary sheet of paper and two paper clips," he gives the paper to the audience for inspection. Having received the paper back, he folds it into a ring and, connecting the ends with paper clips, puts the cylinder thus obtained on the table. Returning to the second table and taking a dice in his hand (Fig. 21), the artist says: “This dice is remarkable not only for its size, but also for the fact that, at my request, it can “fly” from one table to another. There are two way of flight. The first is visible." At these words, he lowers the cube into the paper cylinder, standing on the next table, and raises the cylinder. The audience sees the cube.

The artist lowers the cylinder, takes out a cube from it and places it next to the case on the second table. “I understand that you are not interested in this way of flying,” he says, smiling, “so I will show you the second way.” He covers the dice with a case-case, makes "magic" passes over it with a "magic" wand, lifts the case - the dice "flew away". The case is tapped inside with a wand and remains hanging on it. With his free hand, the magician picks up a paper cylinder on a nearby table, and the audience sees that the die has flown over there. Having placed the cylinder, the artist takes out a dice from it and, placing it on the second stele, covers it with a case. In this form, he passes it to his assistant, who went on stage with a tray in his hands; on the tray, he puts his “magic” wand and a paper cylinder, having previously unfolded it and showed it to the audience. The assistant takes it all backstage.

Focus secret:

You already have a "magic" wand, you can easily find a sheet of paper and a couple of paper clips, but you will have to make a dice and a case for it, in which, in fact, the secret of this trick is contained. Let's start with a dice (Fig. 22, a, b). It is clear from the figure that our bone consists of two parts: outer (a) and inner (b), each of them is a cube with only five faces. Both of these parts are inserted one into the other (Fig. 22, e). Each half is covered with black matte paper inside and out; how such boxes are made, we have already described in the "Gemini" focus. The outer part (a) of our dice is made first.

Having determined the size of the sides of 8-10 cm, we will make a pattern out of cardboard 1-1,2 mm thick (Fig. 22, c) and then, cutting the folds, glue it together (see the "Gemini" focus). Only when the outer part is completely ready, it is possible to determine the dimensions of the inner part, and then make it. The inner part should enter the outer completely freely, but at the same time not hang out in it. When the finished parts are inserted one into the other, then, by slightly squeezing the walls of the outer part with your fingers and lifting it, you can raise the inner part with it; but as soon as the gripping fingers are loosened, the inner part should fall out - this is precisely the secret of the trick. Therefore, it is necessary to cut out all the details with great accuracy.

According to the outer part of the dice, the dimensions of the case-case are also determined (Fig. 22, d): if the bone is put into the case, the walls of which are slightly compressed by the fingers of the hand, then it rises with it, but if you lift the case without squeezing your fingers, then it rises alone, without taking with him the dice under him. Inside, the case is completely pasted over with black paper to the edges, and on the outside - bright colored paper, which does not go inside the case.

When gluing or drawing white dots-circles on a dice, observe the following rule: the sum of the points on two opposite parallel sides of a dice should always equal seven, that is, if there are five of them on one side, then two on the opposite side, and accordingly, against four - three, and against six - one point.

Now that you know all the secrets of the devices, let's talk about the trick technique. Having put the parts of the dice into one another (as shown in Fig. 22, e) and covered the dice with a cover, the artist placed them on the table before the session next to the "magic" wand. Then everything happened as follows: without squeezing the walls of the cover, the artist easily removed it, and the audience saw a dice, which the magician then picked up, squeezing the walls of its outer part with his fingers - so he transferred it to the next table inside the paper cylinder; when he returned it back, he left the inner part of the dice in the cylinder, and put only its outer part on the second table, but the audience did not notice this and thought that it was still the same cube as before.

Having covered the bone with a cover and having made his passes, the illusionist raised the cover together with the part of the dice inside it - for this he squeezed the walls of the cover with his fingers; the audience saw that the cube "disappeared", and when the magician hung the "case" on a stick, they had no doubts about this. Raising the paper cylinder, the artist showed the inner part of the dice left there, which finally convinced those present that the "mysterious flight" had taken place.

Our dice can be "charged", that is, filled with various objects - scarves, flowers, serpentine, etc. These objects are "charged" into the inner part and only then it is inserted into the outer one. The origin of the focus remains unchanged. The ending looks like this: when the case-case is raised and the dice "disappeared", the magician, tapping the case from the inside with a stick, shows that there is nothing in it, and puts it on the table, and puts a "magic" wand next to it.

Then, having rolled up his sleeves, he takes out a dice that has flown there from a paper cylinder, puts it on the table, covering it with a cover, and after that he begins to pull out paper ribbons of multi-colored serpentine from the cylinder, lowering them directly to the floor. Soon a rather large pile of multi-colored ribbons will form near the table. our apparatus can be charged with 10-12 serpentine rolls.

For a children's matinee, our device can be charged with inexpensive sweets, and then treat the children to them.

If your assistant does not have a tray with which he should come to you on stage to pick up the equipment that has become unnecessary, then you need to make such a tray yourself, since it will also be needed for other tricks. It's not hard at all to make it. On fig. 23 you see the details from which the tray is made - the bottom is cut out of eight-millimeter plywood, and the side is cut out of three-millimeter plywood.

The side is glued to the bottom so that its edges hang down around 15 mm. After gluing, the tray is dried under pressure, carefully skinned with fine sandpaper, painted with heated enamel paint and immediately sprinkled over it with aluminum or bronze powder (you know how this is done from the description of the coloring of the magician's table).

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Memory Samsung DRAM CXL 2.0 128 GB 10.05.2023

Samsung has introduced the world's first DRAM solution based on the new CXL 2.0 standard. This 128 GB DRAM is designed for use in high performance computing devices and servers.

Samsung has worked with Intel on this new standard.

The CXL 2.0 DRAM supports PCIe 5.0 and uses 8 lanes. It provides data transfer rates up to 35 Gbps. The new CXL 2.0 standard (unlike the previous generation) now supports memory pooling. This memory management method links multiple blocks of memory on a server to create memory pools and allows hosts to dynamically allocate pool memory based on their needs. This improves overall efficiency and reduces operating costs.

So far, such memory is intended only for use in server systems. Manufacturers are still working on consumer grade CXL memory.

Samsung has announced that it intends to start mass production of CXL 2.0 DRAM later this year. It will offer its customers various device sizes for high performance computing systems and servers. These solutions can increase the bandwidth and capacity of the main DRAM on the server, enabling better AI and machine learning performance.
