Phraseologism: Seven cities compete for honor.
Meaning: About a situation when many people claim for something (glory, birthright, etc.) at once (jokingly-iron.).
Origin: Since even in Ancient Greece there was no exact information about the birthplace of the author of the Odyssey and the Iliad, Homer, even in those days the lines appeared: "Seven cities, arguing, are called the homeland of Homer ..." Each city of Greece wanted it was considered the place where the man who became the pride of Greek culture was born. This dispute gave life to the popular expression.

Origin:
In 1866 in England, in the House of Commons, under the influence of the growth of the labor movement, Lord Russell's liberal cabinet put forward a bill for the reform of the suffrage. Time works for us." The last phrase, which has become winged in Russian speech, is not a completely accurate translation.
