Focus Description:

Again, there are three cards in the performer's hand. Having opened them with a fan, the performer shows: deuce, queen and four (Fig. 73, A). The performer folds this fan, leaving the cards in the same order. Everyone saw that the lady was in the middle.

Now, approaching one of the spectators, the artist invites him to firmly hold these three cards with two fingers in the middle of the lower edge.

“And now,” the performer says, “I can easily remove this lady from the middle, despite the fact that you hold her very tightly. One, two, three!” And the lady is in the performer’s hand. He only slightly touched the free edges with two fingers cards, and the cunning lady literally slipped out of the grip of two cards tightly holding her (Fig. 73, B). Then the performer asks the viewer to show everyone the remaining two cards, which he still squeezes so tightly with two fingers. The viewer opens them and shows them. This is a deuce and four, and the ladies are no longer among them.

Focus secret:

In this trick, you can use the previous two cards, replacing only the king with a queen. In short, you need to have three cards: one red queen and two black cards of lesser value. But you can take the queen of spades, deuce and four of diamonds or hearts. Two and four do not have any secrets, he is in the lady. The lower edge of this card is cut out in the form of a semicircle with a diameter of a quarter of its height, retreating 1 cm from the lower corners.

Before the performance, this lady is placed in the middle between the deuce and the four with the cut edge down (Fig. 73, B). When the performer takes the cards in his hands and opens them with a fan, then the “gates” in the middle card remain hidden in his hand, one card (deuce) closes them from below with an angle, and a four from above with another angle. The wide part of the fan is extremely open. In this form, this triple of cards is shown to the audience.

Then the performer closes the fan, takes the folded cards with the other hand by the top and turns them face down. And the viewer is offered to keep the lower part of the closed "fan" with secret "gates" in the middle map. He, unaware of this, firmly holds only two cards - the bottom and the top, and not three; the lady remains free thanks to the carved "collars". When the performer runs two fingers along the free edges of the cards, the lady slips out unhindered, ending up in his hands (Fig. 73, D). He quickly puts this card in his pocket, and the spectator, who continues to hold the rest of the cards tightly, offers to open them and show them to the audience. Then he takes these cards, thanks the viewer and returns to the stage.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

Robot crab 20.05.2020

A special robot crab will help to explore the seabed. Specialists from Italy have developed a unique robot to study the ocean floor. The robot, resembling a crab, can move along the bottom and can study underwater terrain that is difficult for conventional research drones.

Underwater robots for studying the bottom are not new to robotics, but fish-like machines are usually used for such tasks, which comes with some difficulties. For example, fish-like drones depend on the currents, and, accordingly, cannot remain stationary unless they compensate for the force of the current with the work of the engines. Plus, the lack of a stop makes it difficult to take bottom samples with floating drones.

Another disadvantage of floating robots is that it is difficult for them to get close to the difficult bottom. All these problems are solved if you use a crab robot that does not swim near the bottom, but walks on it. Such a machine was designed by the staff of the School for Advanced Studies named after St. Anne, a team led by Giacomo Picardi.

“We decided not to invent what nature has already invented, and to take as a basis the method of movement used by crabs. Our SILVER2 underwater vehicle is in many ways similar to these creatures,” say the creators of the robot, noting that the device can carry a whole range of scientific tools, drills and manipulators, cameras, and so on.
