EFFECTIVE FOCUSES AND THEIR CLUES The disappearance of a dove from a glass box. Focus secret Directory / Spectacular tricks and their clues Focus Description: There is a small square table on the stage (the size of the top board is 45x45 cm). A beautiful tablecloth hangs down a little. There is a transparent glass box on the table. The magician approaches the table, holding a dove. Opening the lid, he puts the bird in the box (Fig. 100, A).
Closes the lid. The audience clearly sees a dove sitting inside a glass box. The magician slightly lifts the box, but then, after thinking it over, puts it back on the table. He takes a handkerchief, covers the box with it, picks it up and passes it to his right hand, and quickly pulls off the handkerchief with his left hand. Everyone sees that the dove has disappeared from the glass box (Fig. 100, B and 101). The performer goes into the hall with the box, everyone is convinced that it is empty and does not have any secret devices.
Props: Table with a secret device. Glass box measuring 25x15 cm and 12 cm high, Secret device for the box. Focus secret: The secret lies in the construction of a glass box that looks like an aquarium. It has narrow thin metal corners-rims that frame it on four sides (both from below and from the sides), and covers. The lid is hinged to one of the upper metal sides. The box has no bottom, but this is not noticeable when it is on the table: a second box is inserted into it, which serves as a secret device for the first. The second box is also made of glass and has a bottom: on all sides it is surrounded by squares-sides. The glass lid of the second box has nothing to do with the box itself. This lid at the right moment falls to the bottom of the first box, where it is held up by the corners-sides, and the second box, together with the dove, falls inside the table, which has a special device for masking the second box-cage with a bird. This is the whole secret of focus. On fig. 102, A schematically shows both caskets in section. The first is shown by two parallel lines, the second by hatched lines. It can be seen that the lid of the second box (glass), which is under the lid of the first, lies on the side of the second, and at the top it is supported by a small spring a. Both boxes must be opened with great care. When lifting the lid of the first box, you must also hold the lid of the second one, otherwise it may slip off.
On fig. 102, B schematically shows the moment when the second cell descends into the table. It can be seen how, having slipped out of the first one, it falls into the table, and its lid, shown by the dotted line, becomes the bottom of the first casket. The glass must be made very carefully and exactly match the internal dimensions of the first box in size. When the glass falls to the bottom of the first box, the edges of the corners-sides hold it inside in the right position. Taking the box in his hand, the magician holds it by the sides and makes sure that his fingers do not touch the lower glass, otherwise it can be accidentally lifted, which will immediately arouse suspicion among the audience. On fig. 102, B shows the top board of the table intended for the disappearance of the second casket. For greater clarity, the hatch, indicated by an arrow in, is shown closed. In size (width and length), the hatch must exactly match the width of the second box, and its depth is equal to the height of the box (in our case, 12 cm). The first box should exactly stand on the very edge of the hatch so that the hole of the hatch falls exactly near the inner sides of the corners-sides at the bottom of the first box. So the second box can easily and freely come out of the first and fall into the hatch, and its lid (glass) should slide to the bottom of the first box and lie flat on the corners-sides. The hatch in the lid of the table, as in all such cases, is masked by an intricately painted tablecloth, which hangs down and closes the casket with the dove on all sides when it goes into the hatch. The design of the hatch may be different. For example, it can be covered with two sliding curtains with drawstrings, with which it can be opened and closed. It can also be made in the form of a door rising up (see Fig. 102, B). Here, the hinges of the hatch, which are hidden under the masking tablecloth, are shown by arrows e, and the protrusion on the lid, which does not allow it to fall down, is indicated by the arrow e. At the right time, the hatch can be easily lifted by the protrusion. Springs are embedded in the hinges, which bring the hatch into the desired position. You can also make a hatch that opens with a cord. Having shown the box with the dove (or rather, two boxes - one inside the other), the magician puts it on a table near the hatch, covers it with a handkerchief, simultaneously opens the hatch cover and places the box exactly above it. The second box with the dove falls freely into the hatch, and the performer, moving the box away from the hatch (all this happens under the cover of a scarf), closes the lid and lifts the box covered with a scarf. With a sliding (curtain) system, the manhole cover under the cover of a scarf is moved apart under the box, which is held by small protruding corners. They are shown in fig. 102, In the arrows e, and the contour of the hatch is dotted. When the doors are moved apart, the second casket falls into the hatch, leaving the lid-glass in the first, which from that moment becomes the bottom in the first casket. The springs attached to the sashes, immediately, as soon as the laces are released, bring the sashes to their original, closed position. To avoid excessive noise, the hatch inside must be pasted over with a bike. Author: Vadimov A.A.
