Focus Description:

The artist gives the audience a deck of cards and asks them to carefully shuffle it. Offers to take out any card. The spectator takes out a card and shows it to everyone present. The magician is given a thread with a needle. He invites the viewer (to pierce the card from any edge and thread it, which he does. The card hangs on the thread.

The illusionist is given a hoop and asks the spectator to tie the card to the hoop so that it is in the center. The performer walks onto the stage holding the hoop high above the floor. The assistant takes out a burning candle, gives it to the magician and takes the hoop with the card from him. The performer sets fire to the thread and immediately gives the candlestick to the assistant, and from him he takes the ring with the burning thread. The thread burns out, but the card continues to hang in the air. The magician carefully removes the hoop and quietly passes it over (Fig. 76, A) the card, below, in front and behind, proving that it is hanging in the air. In conclusion, the performer shows the audience a map and a hoop.

Props:

An ordinary deck of playing cards.

Needle with thin white thread.

Wooden hoop.

A candle in a candlestick, a box of matches.

Spool of black thread.

A small piece of soft wax.

Focus secret:

The secret lies in the black thread, stretched at an angle of 45 degrees. It holds the map, attached with small pieces of wax. To prevent the audience from noticing the thread, it is tied in advance to some heavy object, for example, to a box in which the load is enclosed. One end of the thread is attached on stage to the side wings, and the other end is tied to a box, which the assistant takes out during the previous number and puts it on a table set in advance in a certain place. Lowering the box, the assistant tries to tighten the thread more. A small piece of wax is in the magician's vest pocket.

The whole trick goes according to the description. When the performer passes the hoop to the assistant, he, wanting to stop the swinging card, imperceptibly attaches a piece of wax to the upper edge of its tick, which in turn is attached to the stretched thread. All this should be done quickly, naturally, so that the audience could not suspect anything. The white thread on which the map hangs is set on fire, and the candle with the candlestick is immediately taken aside so as not to illuminate the stretched black thread (Fig. 76, B). The magician, manipulating with the hoop, must lead it smoothly, otherwise the card may swing.

The lighting of the stage for this trick must be chosen in advance, checking from all ends of the auditorium to see if the threads are visible. The 45-degree inclination of the thread makes it very easy to guide the hoop around the card. When the illusionist takes the card, unobtrusively removing it from the black thread, the assistant watches over the box to which the thread is tied. During the next number, the assistant simply and naturally takes the box backstage.

Instead of burning the thread, it can just as well be cut with scissors.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Low Capacitance TVS Littelfuse SP3384NUTG 12.02.2020

Littelfuse has released new low-capacity 3384V SP3,3NUTG TVS packages designed to protect interface lines in 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) applications.

These TVS assemblies provide +-30 kV electrostatic (ESD) protection to IEC 61000-4-2 for high-speed interfaces, IEC 40-61000-4 (EFT, 4 /5 ns) and against microsecond interference with peak current up to 50 A (Lightning, 15/8 µs).

With ultra-low parasitic capacitance as low as 0,7 pF and low trip voltage (6,5...9 V), the SP3384NUTG is ideal for protecting differential data lines in 2.5, 5 and even 10 GbE applications without compromising integrity and without reducing the quality of the digital signal.

Features and Benefits:

Average capacitance value of each channel: 0,5 pF;
Average clamping voltage (tp=8/20ns)):
4 V at Ipp = 1 A
12 V at Ipp = 15 A
Provide protection for 4 single lines or 2 differential pairs;
Leakage current at 3,3V operating voltage: 3nA (average) and 40nA (maximum).

Application of SP3384NUTG assemblies:

Industrial low voltage differential interfaces (LVDS);
Data processing and storage centers and telecommunications:
5G wireless devices
WAN/LAN equipment
Servers
2.5G/5G/10G Ethernet
Consumer electronics and wearable devices.
The SP3384NUT TVS assemblies are available in miniature µDFN (3 x 2mm) packages. They have an operating temperature range of -40...125°C and comply with the requirements of AEC-Q101.
