Who and when designed and built a flying submarine?

In the 1930s, there was a project in the Soviet Union to create a flying submarine, which was not completed. The Americans in the 1960s went further: a really working aircraft was built that could first land on water and then dive into it. The speed of its flight in the air was 130 km / h, the speed under water was 8 knots. True, the design did not provide for the ability to take off again from a submerged position. As planned by the military, such devices could come in handy during a possible war against the USSR, unexpectedly attacking ships in the waters of the Black, Azov and Caspian seas.

How do colors come about?

The light emitted by the Sun or other very hot sources is called white light. But in reality, white is a mixture of different colors. This can be detected when viewed through a glass prism. Light, passing through it, breaks up into different colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet. How do different colors come about? Color is determined by the wavelength of light.

Light propagates in space in waves, reminiscent of the movement of waves in bodies of water. The wavelength of a light is the distance between two adjacent crests. It is so small that it is measured in millionths of a millimeter. The shortest visible waves are purple, their length is about 0,0004318 millimeters.

The longest waves are red, their length is 0,0007112 millimeters. Between them are all the other colors of the spectrum, each of which has its own wavelength. Most of the colors we see are not made up of the same wavelength, but a mixture of different wavelengths. Mauve, for example, is a mixture of red and purple brown - red, orange and yellow. Various shades of color are formed by adding a small amount of white, for example, a mixture of red and white gives pink.

Why do objects have a certain color? When white light hits an object, some of the light waves are reflected from it, and some are absorbed. A red object absorbs almost all light waves, with the exception of red ones. He reflects them, they come to our eyes, and the object seems red to us.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person.
