Roman chamomile, or noble umbilicus (Chamaemelum nobile) is a perennial plant from the Asteraceae family, which is used as an ornamental plant and in medical practice.

Tips for growing, harvesting and storing Roman chamomile:

Cultivation:

  • Roman chamomile prefers sunny locations and well-drained soils. It can grow both in pots and outdoors.
  • Reproduction of Roman chamomile occurs through seeds or division of rhizomes.
  • Seeds should be sown in spring or autumn to a depth of 1-2 cm. Rhizomes should be divided in spring or autumn.
  • Roman chamomile plants require moderate watering, but do not tolerate waterlogging.

Workpiece:

  • Roman chamomile flowers are used for medicinal purposes. They contain many beneficial substances such as antioxidants and flavonoids.
  • Flowers should be picked when they are open. To maintain their quality, they should be dried in the shade in a well-ventilated place, spread out on paper in a thin layer.
  • Dried flowers can be used to make tinctures, teas or extracts.

Storage:

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Hydrogen dump truck 16.10.2022

Three stories high, fully loaded, the classic mining truck is one of the largest vehicles on the planet. The mining industry contributes up to 7% of global carbon emissions annually. About 50% of this volume is accounted for by dump trucks for transporting heavy rocks.

So Seattle-based First Mode wants to replace its powerful diesel engine with a hydrogen engine. First Mode has created the world's largest mobile hybrid hydrogen power plant, combining hydrogen fuel cells with battery power. It weighs as much as five elephants and is capable of carrying a load equal to the weight of 100 elephants.

In May of this year, the hydrogen hauler made its official debut at the Mogalakwena mine in South Africa, owned by Anglo American. The multinational mining company estimates that the average mining truck in its fleet consumes 900 liters of diesel per year.

Recently, a growing number of industries - from land transport to aviation - are considering hydrogen as an energy source. In August, Germany introduced 14 passenger hydrogen trains. Airbus also announced plans to test hydrogen-powered aircraft in 2026.

Energy research engineer Glenn Rambach notes that hydrogen technology could eventually outperform electric batteries. But building the infrastructure to produce the hydrogen fuel needed to support the truck fleet, he adds, is one of the main challenges facing a project of this magnitude.

Hybrid vehicles running on a combination of hydrogen and electric batteries could alleviate the problem of any mismatch in the electric or hydrogen infrastructure. However, carbon emissions from using hydrogen as a fuel depend on how the hydrogen is produced. "Green" hydrogen is created using renewable energy sources, while "blue" hydrogen is created using fossil fuels.

First Mode says their dump truck was designed to run on green hydrogen and the company is working to build a sustainable supply chain to support the trucks.
