EFFECTIVE FOCUSES AND THEIR CLUES Moving cards. Focus secret Directory / Spectacular tricks and their clues Focus Description: There is an incomplete deck in the player's hand. "These cards," he says, "have the ability to move in and out of the deck on their own." Indeed, the performer does not touch them. With his free hand, he only makes passes in the air, and the cards slip out of the deck one after another, as if someone is pushing them out. Finally, only two cards remain in the performer's hand (Fig. 75, A).
Then the artist goes to the illusion table and takes the original number of cards again. Tells the audience that he will now repeat the trick. But so that they do not have any suspicions, the performer takes an ordinary handkerchief, shows it and spreads it on the palm of his left hand. Then he places these cards on it in a vertical position and squeezes them tightly through a handkerchief. "Now watch carefully what these cards will do," says the performer. And the cards again begin to move, despite the scarf tightly fitting them, and alternately jump out of the deck. Focus secret: For both variants of this trick, one deck of cards is enough. Divide it in half and prepare each half for demonstration. For one half, you will need a piece of thin fishing line, and for the other (for the second option), you also need a scarf 25x25 cm in size. You can also use an ordinary handkerchief. This option also requires a needle. The whole secret of the trick lies in the preliminary "charging" of the cards. You need to prepare one card first. In the center at the upper edge, slightly retreating from it, a small hole is pierced and a 50 cm piece of fishing line is passed through it. To prevent the line from slipping through, a knot must be tied at the end of the segment. The prepared card is placed on the table, the free end of the fishing line is pulled down along the middle of the entire card vertically and exactly another card is placed on it. They bend around this card from the bottom up with the free end of the same fishing line and lead it along the middle of the second card vertically upwards. Having brought the end of the fishing line to the upper edge of the second card, they carefully place the next, third card on it, which the fishing line will wrap around from above, after which it will go down along its middle. Then the fourth card is placed, which the fishing line will wrap around from below and then go up along its middle, then the fifth and so on until the last one. The last card should cover the fishing line drawn from top to bottom on the penultimate card (Fig. 75, B). The remaining end of the fishing line is attached to the button of the vest or shirt, and the "charged" cards, ready for demonstration, are placed in the side pocket of the vest or jacket. In the same way, the "charging" of the other half of the cards is done. Only the remaining end of the fishing line is threaded into the needle (Fig. 75, D). These "charged" cards are placed in a neat pile on the illusion table so that they cover the end of the fishing line with the needle. First, there is a demonstration of the first version of the focus. As described at the beginning, the performer takes out "charged" cards from his pocket. Holding them vertically with his left hand, he makes passes with his right hand and at the same time pulls on the line with his thumb that goes from the waistcoat to the left hand with cards. From the tension of the fishing line, the cards are pushed out one after the other. Having finished demonstrating the first version of the trick, the performer puts the remaining two cards in his pocket and goes to the illusion table. He takes out a handkerchief from his pocket and shows it on both sides to the audience. Spreading a handkerchief on the palm of his left hand, the performer takes from the table the second half of the "charged" cards with a needle at the end of the fishing line. Putting these cards in his hand, he simultaneously passes the needle with the tip of the fishing line through the middle of the handkerchief from top to bottom, holding the needle between the ring finger and little finger. Moving the tip of the fishing line down under the handkerchief, the performer sets in motion the cards in the handkerchief (Fig. 75, E). One after another, they slip out of the scarf up, leading to the astonishment of the audience. To avoid any suspicion, you need to straighten the ends of the scarf, pulling out the end of the fishing line. The third version of this trick is based on the same principle as the previous two. The difference is only in the demonstration and additional props. Here, a whole deck of cards can be used, which is "charged" in a known way. A "charged" deck of cards is placed in an ordinary glass. You can take a beautiful glass instead of a glass, it will look more impressive. In this case, the free end of the fishing line should pass under the deck along the bottom of the glass. It should be brought to the wall, invisible to the audience. A glass or wine glass is placed on an illusion table, in the middle of which there is a metal bracket behind the glass. Through this bracket, the free end of the fishing line coming from the glass is passed and attached to the upper part of the back of the chair standing at the table (Fig. 76, A).
Standing near the illusion table, the performer makes passes with his left hand, distracting the attention of the audience, and with his right hand he simultaneously pulls on the fishing line that goes from the table to the chair. Each time you touch the line, the cards will jump out of the glass one after another, giving the impression that they are moving on their own. The fourth focus option can be demonstrated simultaneously with the third or completely independently. For this you need a book. A "charged" deck of cards is inserted between the pages in the middle of the book. The pages between which it is nested are glued halfway and on the sides, forming an envelope. The free end of the fishing line is brought out from under the pages to the back wall of the binding. The book is placed upright on the illusion table next to the glass. The free end of the fishing line is passed through the second metal bracket on the illusion table and attached to the back of the same chair. Both fishing lines can be pulled simultaneously or alternately (Fig. 76, B). The fifth option is somewhat different. It does not require pre-charge. The secret in this case lies in the glass itself. A faceted glass is taken, in which one face is cut from the bottom to a smooth rim framing the glass. The edges of the cut face are carefully polished so that they do not cut the finger (Fig. 77, A).
This glass is placed in advance on the illusion table, and an ordinary deck of cards is placed next to it. The performer proceeds to demonstrate the focus. He takes a deck of cards and pours them on the table, showing the audience that there is no secret in them, and collects them again in a deck. Then he takes a glass from the table and, showing it to the audience, places cards in it. He holds the glass with four fingers, and the index finger remains free. The performer inserts this free finger into the hole in the glass and pushes cards out of the glass one by one (Fig. 77, B). The sixth option does not require any props, except for a deck of cards with a case. In this case, along one of the sides, vertically, a narrow hole is cut. The whole secret lies in a small device. It consists of a metal half-ring or bracket with a tiny needle spike in the center of the convex side. This bracket is put on by the performer in advance on the middle finger from the side of the palm. During the demonstration of the trick, the performer holds a deck of cards with one hand, and with the other hand holds the palm of the hand with a spiked bracket on the finger upwards with the other hand. The spike enters the slot of the case and pushes out the first card adjacent to this wall of the case (Fig. 78).
