EFFECTIVE FOCUSES AND THEIR CLUES To the stars! Focus secret Directory / Spectacular tricks and their clues Focus Description: The performer comes out from behind the scenes, carrying a light metal ball in his hands. Walking over to the table, he places it on a small stand. He takes a light gas handkerchief from the table and covers the ball with it. The ends of the scarf, hanging over the stand, lie on the table. The artist makes passes by passing his right and left hands alternately over the ball. Spectators see how the ball, covered with a scarf, begins to rise from the stand up. Another second - and he is already in the air above the table. The artist, bringing his hands closer to the ends of the scarf hanging from the ball, leads his hands after the ball (Fig. 67, A).
The ball then goes down, then rises up, moves to the right, then to the left, and suddenly rushes up again so rapidly that the performer even has to make some effort, holding the ball by the ends of the handkerchief. Then the ball starts to descend again and slowly descends to the base from which it started its flight. The magician pulls off the handkerchief and shows the audience the ball and stand. This very spectacular number is sometimes shown with a very small ball - only about 8 cm in diameter. We recommend using a ball with a diameter of at least 15 cm. Props: The ball is aluminum. Two hemispheres are squeezed out of thin aluminum, which are glued to each other with BF-2 glue. (Note that aluminum is not soldered, and it is extremely difficult to weld it.) A small bracket is glued to one of the halves of the ball (Fig. 67, B), then the entire ball is covered with bronze powder diluted in enamel. Thin silk handkerchief 90x90 cm. An aluminum pin about 30 cm long, bent as shown in fig. 67, C and D. Focus secret: The secret is extremely simple. To the ball, we have already said, they glue or rivet a bracket bent at a right angle made of thin sheet aluminum with a width of at least 1 cm. The end of the aluminum wire is inserted into the bracket (see Fig. 67, C and D). So that it does not spin in the bracket, it is made square or flat. The angle keeps the ball in one place and prevents it from falling down the pin. At the other end of the pin is attached a small tube made in the form of a thimble, 4 cm long and with a diameter equal to the circumference of the middle finger of the left hand. The support for the ball can be of any kind and depends on the taste of the amateur. It is only important that the ball stays on it steadily. It is placed on a stand so that bracket B is not visible to the audience and it is easy to insert pin C into it, which is hidden in advance on the table in a convenient place. The "thimble" of the pin should be turned to the left: after all, it will need to be put on the middle finger of the left hand. With the help of this pin, the ball makes a wonderful "flight". Coming out with the ball, the magician puts it on the stand in such a way that it is convenient to insert the end of the pin into the bracket. Then the performer slowly covers the ball with a handkerchief, straightening out the folds, imperceptibly inserts the pin into the bracket and, slightly pressing it with his body to the table, begins to make “magic” passes with both hands. Then he gradually moves to the passes with one right hand, and at this time brings the left under the handkerchief and puts the "thimble" on the middle finger. Continuing the passes with the right, the left begins to slowly lift the ball up. When moving, the scarf inflates beautifully, creating a complete illusion of free flight of the ball. The right hand is held slightly below the handkerchief; the ends of the fingers of the left hand are under the handkerchief; sometimes, however, two or three fingers of the left hand are taken out from under the cover, with the exception of the middle one - it is kept under the handkerchief all the time. It is clear that the "thimble" is painted with paint to match the color of the finger. Making a swift movement upwards and slightly grabbing the ends of the handkerchief with his right hand, the magician, as it were, with difficulty holds the strongly tearing ball. In this case, you should constantly change the position of the body, you do not need to stand to the audience only with your right side. Finishing the number, the magician lowers the ball onto the stand, quickly and imperceptibly removes the pin and hides it, placing it under cover on the table or on a special sideboard. Despite its apparent simplicity, the number is quite complex and requires careful rehearsal in front of a mirror in order to achieve beautiful plastic movements in harmony with the flight of the ball. Some illusionists control the ball with not one, but two hands, but this only complicates the trick. Many are making improvements to the room. For example, in the finale of the "flight" the ball rolls beautifully over the performer's hand, over the neck to the other hand, then makes the return journey and eventually disappears. Only one light handkerchief remains in the magician's hands. There are other ball support systems. Among them is a very original device of the pin, at one end of which the "thimble" already described by us is arranged, and at the other end - a supporting device made in the form of a small circle with a crossbar, where the ball is placed (Fig. 67, E). The use of such a pin allows the illusionist to give the audience a ball for inspection before the start of the trick and after it ends. Author: Vadimov A.A.
