Focus Description:

The illusionist shows the audience a slate board from both sides. The board is clean and nothing is written on it. (You can wipe the board on both sides with a damp sponge.) Putting the board on the table so that it is visible to the audience, he takes the newspaper and, showing it, wraps the board in it. Taps the bundle with a wand to prove that the board is inside.

Puts the wrapped board in a conspicuous place or gives it to hold one of the spectators. In this case, it is better to tie the bundle crosswise with thin twine. Then the performer takes a notebook, a pencil from the table and goes to the audience. He asks four of them in turn to write one four-digit number in a notebook. The numbers should be written one under the other - it is more convenient to do the counting.

Having torn out a piece of paper with written numbers, the illusionist approaches the fifth spectator and asks him to calculate the amount. He adds up the numbers. The performer tears off part of the sheet with the written amount, gives it to the viewer and asks him to read the amount aloud. The spectator speaks. Let's say it turned out 28. Then the magician takes a newspaper, unfolds the board - and the audience sees clearly written numbers on it: 784 (Fig. 28).

Props:

Slate. Its size is arbitrary, approximately 24x37 cm. It is very simple to make a board yourself: a piece of plywood is well sanded, if necessary, puttied and primed, then painted with matte black paint. A frame is cut out into which the prepared and black-painted plywood is inserted (Fig. 3, A).

Insert. A plank of thin plywood or cardboard that easily fits into the frame of the board and covers one side of it. At the insert, one side is painted in the same way as the board, in black paint (Fig. 3, B). If the insert is placed on a board, it is very difficult to see it from a distance. The second side of the insert is painted to match the color of the table or pasted over with newspaper if the board will be shown on the newspaper.

Two newspapers.

Notebook. They make one out of two notebooks so that "Notepad" is written on both sides.

A simple pencil.

Focus secret:

First, four four-digit numbers are written in a notebook in different handwriting. For example, in our case: then, having closed the notebook, they turn it over with the other side so as not to confuse it, mark the side on which the numbers are written in advance, after which they clearly write the sum of these numbers on the board with chalk (in our case, 28 784), close the written insert - black side out - and put the board with the insert up on the table. If we now show the board from afar, it seems to be the most ordinary blank board.

Having thus prepared a notebook and a board in advance, the performer puts them on the table along with a pencil.

During the session, you first show the audience the board from the insertion side, which you firmly press with your left thumb to the board. Then, turning the board, show the other side of it for a longer time. When wrapping the board in a newspaper, you quietly drop the insert on the newspaper spread out on the table. To prevent the audience from seeing the moment when the insert falls, you need to tilt the board slightly towards the table when you wrap it in paper.

So, the board is wrapped. It is put on the table or given to the viewer to hold.

After that, the performer, taking a notebook and a pencil, goes to the audience and, opening a blank page, asks four people to write four four-digit numbers in turn. (When writing down the numbers, the magician holds the notebook in his hands.) Then he draws a line under the numbers, quietly turns the notebook over and asks the fifth spectator to count the numbers that were previously written by him.

When everything has been calculated, he opens half of the sheet on which the sum is written (in our case 28) and gives it to the viewer. The rest is clear from our previous description.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

Affordable Avago RGB sensor in a tiny package 26.12.2008

The ADJD E622-QR999 is a low cost CMOS RGB color sensor in a miniature QFN-16 package. In addition to the photodiode matrix, the sensor has built-in RGB color filters and amplifiers.

The microcircuit converts the RGB color stream incoming to it into an analog output voltage value - VROUT, VGOUT and VBOUT, respectively. The ADJD-E622-QR999 is designed for color measurements over a wide dynamic range of light levels. The sensor can be used in conjunction with a white LED to measure the color of its reflected light.

Applications: Lighting color detection and measurement, mobile phones, PDAs, MP3 players, consumer electronics, portable medical devices, portable color detectors.
