Focus Description:

The viewer is shown four jacks of different suits and asked to choose one. The magician says that he can make him take the jack that he, the magician, wants. When the spectator chooses a card, the magician reveals that she has a different color shirt than the other three.

Props:

Four jacks from two different decks with backs of different colors.

Focus secret:

This focus is entirely built on your self-confidence. It's amazing how many times you can get away with it. From one deck (assuming the card backs are gray) you take two black jacks, and from another deck of the same design but with a different color back (for example, red) you take two red jacks. Keep them in an envelope in your pocket, as you won't need them for other magic tricks.

1. You show the four jacks to the public, making sure they don't see the shirt, and say to one of the spectators, let's say Andrei: "If I ask you to choose one of these jacks and you take one of them, you will assume that you took it by your own choice, right? You won't think I can make you take the jack I want you to take, will you?" Andrei will probably answer that you, of course, cannot influence his choice in any way.

2. Say: "Okay, Andrew, let's see. Please name one of these jacks." Andrew chooses one of the suits. Ask if he wants to change his mind. He may or may not want to, but suppose he ends up

3. While saying this, change the order of the cards like this. so that the jack of spades (that is, the jack of the same color as Andrey chose) is on top of the face-up pile. At the same time, take the jack of clubs and say: Here is the card you have chosen.

Focus Jacks Shirts
Place the chosen card (in this case the jack of clubs) on the bottom of the pile, on top of which is a jack of the same color. Card backs shown on the right

Show it to Andrey and the audience and put a pile of four jacks on the bottom (see picture).

4. Line up the four cards, take them in your right hand and tuck them face down in your palm, keeping your four fingers along the long side closest to the audience and your thumb on the side closest to you. At the top of the stack is a gray-backed card (Jack of Clubs).

5. Show the gray shirt to the audience and, turning your hand palm down, with the fingers of your left hand, slide the bottom card (i.e. jack of clubs) into the palm of your left hand, saying: "You chose the jack of clubs, which has a gray shirt." Turning your hand palm up again, show the audience the card with the red back. Turning your right hand palm down again, slide the card off the top card with your left thumb so that it rests on the jack of clubs.

This is, of course, another card with a gray back (Jack of Spades). As you do this, say, "Card two has a red back," quickly turning the palm of your right hand up again to reveal what appears to be another red back, but is actually the same, continue, "Same as card three." . Turn your right hand palm down, slide the bottom card with your fingers, and flip the last card over to demonstrate that it has a red back too. Throw it on the cards in your left palm and say: "You see, Andrey, you have chosen the only card with a gray back, as I wanted."

6. Put the cards back in the envelope and put them back in your pocket. It is better not to repeat this trick - the next viewer may notice the "only" jack with a red shirt.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

Tyrannosaurus Air Conditioner 06.09.2019

Scientists from the United States said that in the skull of the tyrannosaurus rex there were two holes that served as a kind of "air conditioner". They were needed because the giant and active pangolin quickly overheated.

Previously, it was thought that these holes contained muscle tissue, but now researchers have concluded that they were actually covered with a network of blood vessels. It is known that large animals need additional cooling mechanisms, since in the heat their body can quickly overheat.

During the study, scientists used thermal imagers to observe alligators at a farm at the Florida Zoo. It turned out that in the alligator's skull there are holes filled with blood vessels.

"The body temperature of an alligator depends on the environment. We noticed that when it got colder and the alligators were trying to warm up, the thermal imagers recorded large heat spots in the upper part of their skull, which indicate an increase in body temperature. However, as the day became warmer, these spots darkened, as if they were turned off to reduce the temperature, "said study co-author Kent Vliet.

After studying the fossilized remains and three-dimensional models of the skull of tyrannosaurs, scientists found that they had similar openings. It was previously thought that these holes contained muscle tissue, but Holliday says that "it is strange to see muscles that rise up from the jaw, then turn 90 degrees and continue under the cranial vault."
