Focus Description:

One of the spectators shuffles the deck and deals ten pairs of cards face down from it. The magician turns his back, and two other spectators take a pair of cards each and write the name of their two cards on separate pieces of paper. The pieces of paper are folded and the pairs of cards are returned to the table.

The fourth spectator collects pairs of cards in any order, the magician again turns his face and takes twenty cards. He tosses the cards one at a time, in random order, onto the table, then folds them into a rectangle and turns them face up. Spectators with folded pieces of paper put their pieces of paper in front of the rows in which their cards lie.

The magician picks up each piece of paper, passes it over a row and, like a magician, makes the piece of paper react when it is over the desired card. Cards and sheets of paper are placed side by side - and it turns out that these are exactly the cards that are written on pieces of paper.

Focus secret:

This trick does not require any sleight of hand, the main thing in it is the ease with which it is demonstrated. You must memorize four words and perform one complex action, careless on the part, but requiring extreme concentration.

1. Give the deck to a spectator, say Pavel. Ask him to completely shuffle the deck and deal ten stacks of two cards each, face down. Take the rest of the deck and put it aside, saying, "As you can see, I have no way of knowing exactly which cards are dealt and how they pair. So, Pavel, if you want to swap cards and make new pairs, please do it".

2. Give a piece of paper and a pen to two other spectators. Let it be Vadim and Liza. It is desirable that one of them stands on the left and the other on the right. Say: “Now I turn my back. I want you, Vadim, and you, Lisa, to choose a pair of cards each, write the names of two cards on pieces of paper, and then return the pair of cards to the table face down. You do not need to put them on the same the place where you got them from; if you want, you can swap your pair with any other.

Fold the pieces of paper with the names of the cards and hold them in your hands. I must not know what cards you have taken. Ready?"

3. When everything is done, ask Paul, or even a fourth spectator, to collect ten pairs of cards one by one. Say, "Put them in any order, but please don't break the pairs."

4. When Paul has done this, turn around, take the cards from him and start throwing them one by one on the table. This is where the real skill comes in. You should start throwing and after three or four cards say: "I throw the cards in random order on the table so that all the pairs are separated and the cards chosen by Vadim and Lisa are mixed with the general mass."

Focus Divination
The cards are scattered "at random", although in fact you know that they form four rows of five cards and are arranged in a certain order

5. In fact, you throw the cards in a strictly defined order: they should form a barely visible rectangle corresponding to four five-letter words. These four words contain ten pairs of letters, and you throw the cards in pairs according to the pairs of letters that do not repeat. The words representing your key and the order in which you toss the cards are as follows:

1st row - TOAST 1 3 5 7 2

2nd row - PAPER 9 6 10 11 13

3rd row - OCCUR 4 15 116 17 14

4th row - DUDES 19 18 20 12 8

As you can see, the first pair of cards (1 and 2) that you throw on the table corresponds to the two "g" in the word "toast", the second (3 and 4) corresponds to the two "o" in the words "toast" and "occur" .

6. When you are done, say: "Having scattered the cards, I will now put them in order and arrange them in rows in the form of a square, or rather a rectangle." When you have done this, say, "Now I will turn the cards face up."

7. Once you have successfully completed these steps and no one suspects that the cards are laid out in a certain order, you can relax. The hardest part is over. Now say: “Vadim, look at your pieces of paper, unfold them so that I don’t see, and put each of them opposite the row where the card written on it lies. And you, Liza, please do the same. Vadim , put your leaves on this side, and you, Liza, on this one.

Focus Divination
This is what the "arranged" and turned cards look like. Asterisks indicate pieces of paper placed opposite the rows by Lisa and Vadim.

8. While Vadim and Lisa are doing this, remind the audience of what has already happened before their eyes, and tell them what you are going to do. Say, “Remember, these twenty cards were dealt in pairs from a shuffled deck, then Vadim and Lisa chose their pairs so that I couldn’t see which ones they picked. I didn’t actually touch the cards before I laid them out on You will agree that I have no way of knowing which four cards Vadim and Liza have chosen.

I'm going to find them with magic. You all know how magicians search for water: their magic wand starts to tremble when there is water under it. I'm going to find the cards by passing papers over them; I hope to catch the vibrations when the piece of paper is over the right card. It's not easy, so wish me luck."

You will notice that each of the four words in your key contains two of the same letter, so it is possible that the two pieces of paper your viewers were holding will end up in the same row. The stars in the picture on the previous page represent the leaves that Vadim (left) and Liza (right) have laid out in front of the cards. You know that Lisa's cards are the first and third, representing the "r" in the word "paper", in other words, the six of diamonds and the five of clubs.

9. Take two pieces of paper in the palm of your hand and run your hand over the row. Then repeat this operation, but more slowly. As you move your hand over one of Lisa's cards, say, "I can feel the paper reacting to this card. Yes, it's definitely one of the chosen cards." Take it and throw it on the table in front of Lisa. Again, move your hand with the papers over the cards and say: "And this, I'm sure, is the second one," taking and placing the card in front of Lisa on the previous one. Without unfolding, put two pieces of paper on the cards and say: "Now I will deal with Vadim's cards. This should be easier, because since they lie in different rows, the signals will be more distinct." You know that Vadim's cards correspond to the letter "s" in the words "toast" and "dudes", so by picking up the piece of paper lying opposite the top row, you can pretend that you felt a reaction to the fourth card.

If you feel absolutely confident moving your hand over the cards, you can shake the leaves slightly in your hand, as if they really do react to the cards, but only do this if you can do it naturally - otherwise you spoil the focus with excessive effects.

10. Take Vadim's card and put it in front of him with a folded piece of paper at the top, do the same with his second card. Ask Vadim and Lisa to unfold their papers and confirm that you are indeed a skilled magician.

Note that in the case of Vadim, you can connect any piece of paper with the corresponding card, but in the case of Liza, you cannot, since her cards were in the same row. If the cards from both pairs are in different rows - great, this is the most convenient result. If, as in our example, cards from the same pair are on the same row, deal with them first, saving the main effect for last. If both pairs are in the same row - well, the focus will still look spectacular!

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>
