Finger of God

Phraseologism: Finger of God.
Meaning: A synonym for a sign from above, a warning or an indication.
Origin: From the Bible. The Old Testament (Exodus, ch. 8, article 19) speaks of the next (third) "Egyptian plague" (see Egyptian Execution), to which God subjected the Egyptians because they tortured and held the Jews captive. This time it was the clouds of midges, midges that covered Egypt. "And the wise men said to Pharaoh, This is the finger of God." It was understood that in this way God indicates to the Egyptian ruler that he should release the Jews from captivity to their homeland. Sometimes they just say "finger".
