Focus Description:

An assistant stands on the stage, in whose hands four inflated balloons are tied on four thin sticks: blue, red, green, yellow. Take a bandage and a gun and go down into the auditorium.

Standing with your back to the stage in the center of the hall, blindfold your eyes and, holding the gun at the ready, tell the audience to name the color of one of the balloons. As soon as they say, for example, "yellow", immediately turn to the stage and shoot. At the same instant, the yellow balloon will burst. Each time, returning to the starting position, shoot the rest of the balls of the named colors in the same way.

Focus secret:

To demonstrate the trick, you need four ordinary balloons of different colors, a gun - a copy of the real one - firing blank caps, and four thin sticks with a secret, to which a separate balloon is attached.

All sticks are hollow, and a wire needle moves freely inside them. Not far away - on the side opposite to the sharp end of the needle - a window 1 cm long was made in the stick, from which the blunt end of the wire needle slightly protrudes.

When the wire is lowered down, its sharp end is on the same level with the end of the stick. It is worth at the right time for your assistant to move the wire with his thumb up, as she will pierce the ball, which will not be noticeable to the audience at all. The balls, of course, are tied to the sticks so that their necks, through which the balls are inflated, are on the side. Then the needle will pierce just not the thick rubber located near the neck, but the thin one.

The fact that your gun is not real and shoots blank caps will also not be known to the audience, and it will seem to them that you are actually punching the balls with bullets flying out of the gun. The main thing is that the balls burst exactly at the time of the shot, then the illusion will be complete. And turning to the stage, and even blindfolded, will only further enhance the effect of focus.

During the study, the team worked on lab proxy material samples designed in the lab to get closer to real world samples. They were twisted into ultrathin films of pollution only a few tens of nanometers thick.

The researchers used both neutrons and X-rays to study the nanoscale composition of the films and changes in surface structures. They changed the humidity and the amount of ozone, a key indoor and outdoor pollutant.

As a result, it was found that the self-organized arrangement within the films in the form of repeating molecular layers - the so-called lamellar phase - makes it difficult for smaller molecules, such as ozone, to access the reactive parts of fatty acids within these structures.
