Focus Description:

In the hands of the performer is an ordinary small plate. He shows it from both sides to the audience, convincing them that there are no secrets in the plate, and it is completely empty. Then he covers the plate with a handkerchief, counts to three and quickly pulls off the handkerchief - the plate is filled to the brim with flowers.

Focus secret:

This plate has a double bottom. It is cut from thin plywood or plastic.

The diameter of the fictitious bottom should be slightly larger than the bottom of the plate so that it fits snugly into its middle. There should be a space of 5 mm between the real and fictitious bottom of the plate.

The fictitious bottom is cut into two equal parts. These half discs are held together with small springs and a flat latch in the middle. When the fictitious bottom is ready, it is painted to match the color of the plate and painted with ornaments.

Thanks to the springs, it can fold at the right time: both half-discs open and converge in the middle of the fictitious bottom, perpendicular to the main bottom of the plate.

Before demonstrating the focus, the fictitious bottom is inside the dish. The space between the fictitious and real bottom is filled ("charged") with folding paper flowers, which are placed five packs under each half-disk of the fictitious bottom.

It completely covers and firmly presses this "charging". And so that the half-disks do not open, they are held in the center by a small valve. A plate with secret flowers is placed on an illusion table.

Demonstrating the trick, the performer first shows the "empty" plate to the audience.

Then, holding it on one hand, the performer closes the plate with a handkerchief with the other, and pulling it off, simultaneously opens the valve of the fictitious bottom.

Both half-discs instantly rise and free the folded bundles of flowers. They all open at the same time, filling the plate to the brim, and mask the fictitious bottom folded in half.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

NVidia Tegra for self-driving cars 29.08.2014

Nvidia has ready solutions in the development of processors that can improve driving safety. For example, the Nvidia Tegra K1 platform with a built-in 192-core GPU based on the Kepler architecture can process in real time a visual image formed on the basis of data recorded by built-in cameras, radars and laser scanners.

Similar systems, tested on Audi vehicles, help drivers park and move through traffic jams. In five years, these technologies will form the basis of unmanned vehicles, says Danny Shapiro, director of automotive development at Nvidia.

Now Tegra chips are widely used in multimedia systems, but the American company does not intend to stop only at entertainment functions and sees high prospects in the use of proprietary microcircuits in the field of ensuring safe driving.

According to the official Nvidia blog, more than 6 million machines in the world are equipped with the Tegra platform, and this number is growing rapidly. In particular, the chips can be found in the Audi lineup, Tesla Model S and BMW i3 and i8 electric vehicles, as well as the new Mini Cooper S and Rolls Royce Wraith.

As Danny Shapiro told KitGuru, the modern infotainment market is lagging behind the development of the processor industry due to long testing and preparation for mass production of automotive devices. An Nvidia spokesman says that due to the proprietary Visual Computing Module (VCM) modular platform, it was possible to reduce the hardware upgrade cycle of regular systems in Audi cars from five to six years to two. The VCM platform allows machines to be equipped with the most modern Tegra-based multimedia systems at the later stages of machine design.

Audi previously tested a robotic prototype of the A7 hatchback, capable of moving independently at speeds up to 64 km/h.
BMW and General Motors have previously announced their plans to launch the production of self-driving cars by 2020. In addition, similar developments are underway at Volvo, Cadillac, Toyota, Google and Continental.
