Focus Description:

The performer shows empty hands on both sides, then puts them together and, taking away his left hand, finds a large men's pocket watch in his right hand (Fig. 136, A). A slight wave of the right hand - it contains a watch half the size (Fig. 136, B). Having shown them, the magician brings his left (empty) hand to them, and the audience notices that the clock in the right has become very small (Fig. 136, B). Again, the left hand is brought close to the clock and immediately removed. Everyone sees that the clock has suddenly disappeared (Fig. 136, D). Showing both hands empty, the illusionist takes the missing watch out of his pocket and hands it over for inspection.

Props:

Ordinary men's pocket watch.

Imitation of watches of three sizes: large, medium and small, connected together and rotating on one common axis (Fig. 137, A).

All watches are made in half thickness. Folded sideways, they are shown in Fig. 137, B. Axis 1 - a small rod attached to an imitation of a large watch in the place where the crown is placed. A small tube-muff 2 and a connecting plate 3 coming from the middle clock are put on this axis. In addition, another small tube-sleeve 2 is strung on the axis, and on top of it - the connecting plate of the smallest watch 4. A small washer is placed on the plate and the axis is riveted so that the watch can rotate freely on it. Stacked together, the medium and small clocks are not visible to viewers due to the larger clocks.

Focus secret:

The secret of the trick is clear from the description of the simulation of three clocks. Before the start of the number, the performer puts an ordinary watch in his pocket, from which they should appear only in the finale, when he gives them to the audience for inspection. The imitation is first palmed in the left hand, and the right hand is shown by the conjurer empty on both sides. The back of the left hand also shows empty. Bringing the hands one to the other, the performer passes the clock into the palm of his right hand; left - clenched into a fist and slowly opens; after her, the right one clenched into a fist and just as slowly unclenched. At this moment, viewers see the clock appear (Fig. 138, A). The dotted line shows the medium and small clocks behind the large ones.

The clock is shown to the audience (see Fig. 136, A). Having touched his right hand with his left hand, the illusionist, under her cover, quickly and imperceptibly lowers the large clock into the palm of his right hand, which he holds to the audience with the back. Everyone notices that the clock has become smaller (see Fig. 136, B). Figure 138, B shows the moment before clenching the hand into a fist; the dotted line shows the position of the large clock in the palm and the small one behind the middle ones. Then, bringing the left hand to the right, the conjurer imperceptibly pushes the middle clock into the palm, moving it in the direction of the arrow (Fig. 138, B) and pushes out the small clock because of the middle clock, which then appears in the right hand (see Fig. 138, IN).

After that, after giving the audience time to look at the small clock, the illusionist again brings his left hand to his right and, with a slight movement of his hands, imperceptibly lays the small watch behind the middle ones, located in the right palm, behind the large ones. On fig. 138, D shows the moment when the small clock is removed in the direction of the arrow behind the medium and large clocks, which are shown by a dotted line. On fig. 138, E, the right hand is visible with three clocks palmed in it (shown by a dotted line). Here, the watch is imperceptibly, with a slight movement of both hands, passed into the palm of the left and imperceptibly placed on the sideboard or lowered into one of the pockets. The right hand, on which all the attention of the audience is now fixed, first also clenched into a fist, and then also slowly opens. Everyone sees that the watch that was in it has disappeared (see Fig. 136, D).

In conclusion, the performer takes out of his pocket a real watch put there in advance and hands it over for inspection.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

Wireless electricity 09.06.2021

MIT engineers have discovered a new way to generate electricity using carbon nanotubes.

During the experiments, experts used extremely small particles of carbon that can generate an electric current in "cooperation" with the liquid surrounding them. An organic solvent is able to pull out electrons and generate electricity to control, for example, micro- or nano-sized robots.

This mechanism is new, and this way of obtaining energy is completely new. This technology is interesting because all you have to do is pass the solvent through the particle bed.

Scientists have found a way to do electrochemistry without the use of wires. In a new experiment describing the phenomenon, scientists have shown that they can use the resulting electrical current to drive a reaction known as the oxidation of alcohol.
