"It was just there - just not there" - this is how one foreign magician used to say when various things he had laid out on the table disappeared before the eyes of astonished spectators. Maybe the magician really didn't speak Russian very well. Or maybe he did it on purpose, for fun. Anyway, I remember this funny phrase for many years.

Now we will also do this trick with you. Only balls, not scarves, not live pigeons, but ... a magnet will disappear. Rather, it will remain in place, but ... However, do not get ahead of yourself.

Pick up an iron bolt with a diameter of 10 mm and a length of at least 100 mm. Wind on it 15 m of insulated copper wire with a diameter of 0,2-0,3 mm. Wind tightly, coil to coil. You wind one row 5-6 cm long, continue to wind the second over it, then the third, until all the wire runs out. There should be about four hundred turns. Stepping back 10 cm from each end, tie the wire with a thick thread and tie these threads tightly around the bolt so that the winding does not fall apart. Clean the ends of the winding from insulation.

Let's get to the experience. Come on, try to pull the head of the bolt pins, nails - in a word, any steel and iron trifle. No, it doesn't pull. Our bolt is not suitable for magnets.

Well, now attach the ends of the winding to the terminals of the battery from a flashlight. Try again - pulls! Why are there pins - healthy bolts, pliers, or even something heavier! The bolt has become a magnet!

Disappearing Magnet

You ask: what does a foreign magician have to do with it? And here's what. Say his magic formula and turn off the battery. Boom, bang, bang! All pieces of iron at the same moment fall off the bolt. The bolt is no longer a magnet. "Just what was - just what is not!"

Turn on the battery again - and the bolt will again become a magnet. This magnet is not permanent, but temporary. It works only as long as the current flows through the winding. Therefore, it was called an electromagnet, an electric magnet.

An electromagnet is stronger and lighter than a permanent magnet, and most importantly, it is very convenient that it can be controlled. "Just what was - just what is not!" Therefore, electromagnets are very widely used in technology.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Ruggedized memory cards from Silicon Power 20.12.2016

Silicon Power has developed memory cards that are highly reliable. The new High Endurance Series solutions are targeted at automotive, security and surveillance cameras, and other applications that require intensive write operations of large volumes of data.

New items use high quality MLC NAND chips. These memory cards support error correction code (ECC) technology and Ultra High Speed Class 3 (U3) speed specification. Silicon Power has rigorously tested its memory cards under harsh conditions at extreme temperatures ranging from -25 to +85 degrees Celsius. Also noted are water resistance (compliance with the IEC529 IPX7 specification) and the ability to withstand drops and shocks.

The series includes 32 GB microSDHC and 64 GB microSDXC models. The 32 GB model can withstand up to 6 thousand hours of Full HD video recording, for the 64 GB version this figure is 12 thousand hours. Also, cards can be inserted into the slot and removed up to 10 thousand times. The manufacturer provides its new products with a two-year warranty.
