Throw a stearin candle into the water. She will float lying on her side. So you can't light a candle. It is necessary to load the lower end with a nail. Just do not try to stick this nail in by force: the stearin will crumble. The nail must be heated, then it will go in like butter, and will hold well.

Pick up a nail so that almost the entire candle is immersed in water. Only the wick and the very edge of the stearin should remain above the surface. A glass of water in which this candle floats will turn out to be a good candlestick. Light the wick and the candle will burn until it is completely burnt out.

But why? After all, it is about to burn down to water and go out? But that doesn't happen. The water cools the stearin from the outside. Therefore, the edges of the candle will melt more slowly and a deep funnel will form around the wick. The candle will turn into a stearin boat, it will gradually float up. And although there is less and less stearin left, even a small cinder loaded with a nail will not go to the bottom. The candle will burn out almost to the very end.

By the way, our candlestick has one important advantage. A burned-out candle here will never make a fire: the wick will be extinguished with water.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Mushkin Ventura Ultra 3.0 USB Drive 11.10.2013

Mushkin has unveiled the Ventura Ultra, the world's fastest USB key fob. The device is really very fast - reading data can reach an impressive 380 MB / s, and writing - 325 MB / s. Such speeds, of course, are only achievable when connected to USB 3.0 ports.

At the same time, the key fob for optimal speed performance is equipped with support for the USB Attached SCSI Protocol, which is still rare in USB drives. In addition, the novelty is sold in 60 GB, 120 GB or 240 GB versions - the last two options can be very useful for those who need to always have a large amount of information with them in the format of a USB key fob.

By the way, it is curious that the official website provides slightly different, higher than the press release, read / write indicators: the 240 GB version boasts 455/445 MB / s, the 120 GB version - 445/440 MB / s, and the 60 GB model is 455/430 MB / s.

The Mushkin Ventura Ultra has an aluminum chassis and improved shock resistance.
