Recall the condition of stable equilibrium: the equilibrium will be stable if the center of gravity is below the fulcrum and exactly below it. This means that if the plumb line passes through the fulcrum or suspension point and through the center of gravity, one can already hope that the balance will be ensured.

Experience with unstable balance

A ball that lies on the table will always be in a state of equilibrium, because its center of gravity (and it is in the center of the ball) will be connected to the fulcrum by a plumb line, no matter how we move the ball. Such an equilibrium is called indifferent. Another thing is if you want the ball to be held on your fingertip. And although such an equilibrium will be very unstable, it still turns out that it is possible. After all, not only jugglers in the circus easily hold large balls on the tip of their fingers, but also animals: trained sea lions, for example, hold the ball on the tip of their nose. And you can learn to hold a big ball at your fingertip. The whole secret is to quickly move the fulcrum - your finger - under the center of gravity of the ball.

As soon as the ball starts to fall, it will move off the plumb line connecting its center to the fulcrum. Immediately you need to straighten the position - bring the fulcrum under the center of the ball. At first, of course, you will not succeed, but after training you will gradually achieve success. And your quick movements to restore balance will hardly be noticeable from the outside. It will seem to the audience that the ball is calmly resting on your finger, not even about to fall. Experiment with balls of different sizes and think about why the experiment with a large ball works best.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

ASUS R-series APUs 22.05.2014

On May 20, AMD introduced the second generation of hybrid processors related to the R series. The processors are intended for embedded systems. Previously, these products were referred to under the code name Bald Eagle.

The purpose of the Bald Eagle platform is medical devices, gaming machines, information boards, industrial automation tools and other embedded systems that require high graphics performance.

The manufacturer positions the new products as designed for the middle and upper price segment. The new APUs support Windows, Linux OS and RTOS. The CPUs integrated in them on the AMD Steamroller microarchitecture operate at clock speeds of 2,2-3,6 GHz, and the GPU clock speeds on the AMD Graphics Core Next architecture lie in the range of 533-686 MHz.

Among the advantages of the new generation R hybrid processors, the manufacturer names the Heterogeneous System Architecture (HSA), which was first used in embedded processors. This architecture allows applications to distribute the workload between GPUs, CPUs, and dedicated accelerators in an optimal way, thereby achieving a significant increase in overall system performance. According to AMD, the new APUs outperform comparable Intel Core (Haswell) processors by up to 46% in compute performance and 44% in graphics performance.

The new processors are supported in the free open source software Sourcery CodeBench and Mentor Embedded Linux, as well as Mentor Embedded Linux Lite.

If we take into account the scope of new APUs, the guaranteed period of their availability at a commercial level is 10 years. The dual-channel memory controller built into the processor supports ECC memory (can run at DDR3-2133 speed), and the TDP value is configurable. All this gives system developers additional flexibility.

New APUs allow you to connect multiple monitors at the same time. With the addition of the AMD Embedded Radeon E8860 discrete GPU, up to nine displays can be connected while maintaining 4K resolution.
