ENCYCLOPEDIA OF RADIO ELECTRONICS AND ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING Musical strobe. Encyclopedia of radio electronics and electrical engineering Encyclopedia of radio electronics and electrical engineering / Musician Electronic devices that provide various light-dynamic effects are widely used at discos, youth parties, etc. In the days of my youth, schoolchildren themselves “riveted” light-dynamic devices, pasted over the globe with pieces of mirrors and hung it under the ceiling of the classroom. With such a design, class and school discos were a success, invaluable experience was gained, self-esteem grew among the designers of this lighting equipment. Today, when "almost everything" can be bought, the amateur performance of schoolchildren has noticeably subsided, but here and there, "guys with soldering irons" are still noticeable, and there is hope that time has no power over radio amateurs. One of the options for a light-dynamic installation for a disco is a stroboscope using flashes with different frequencies of an IFC-120 flash lamp. Such a lamp was used in industrial flashlights ("SEF-ZM" and similar). Of the unnecessary or faulty flash lamps, only two obligatory parts are needed - the IFC-120 lamp and a pulse transformer. The body can also be used. A simple revision comes down to assembling the electronic assembly, the diagram of which is shown in the figure. The device can operate in two modes, depending on the position of the switch SA2. In the first mode, the lamp flash frequency is controlled using a variable resistor R7, which changes the charge time of the capacitor C5. In this case, the frequency of the generator on the unijunction transistor VT1 changes accordingly. In the second mode, the generator pulses (and the lamp flash frequency) depend on the external signal applied to the input of the device. The use of a matching transformer T1 with a transformation ratio of 1:8 allows you to control the frequency of the generator with an audio frequency voltage with an amplitude of 0,3 ... 1 V. Such a signal can be, for example, a musical signal from the output of the AF amplifier. The required input signal level is regulated by a variable resistor R10. The alternating voltage of the audio frequency after R10 is rectified by the diodes VD4 and VD5 and charges the capacitor C9 through R5. The time of its charge and the switching frequency of the transistor VT1 are determined by the amplitude of the input signal. When VT1 is triggered, a pulse enters the control electrode of the thyristor VS1, which leads to its unlocking. An open thyristor closes the circuit, and the capacitor C4 is discharged through the primary winding of the pulse transformer T2 and VS1. In the secondary winding of this transformer, a high voltage pulse (about 3,6 kV) is formed. This pulse ionizes the gas in the lamp, a short-term discharge occurs, which we see as a light flash. Details. Transformer T1 - industrial, brand TOT-205. Transformer T2 is a regular transformer from a flash lamp. In the diagram, dots mark the beginning of its windings. During operation, the T2 transformer may make low whistling sounds - this is its normal mode. The capacitance of the capacitor C4 is selected within 0.1 ... 0,022 μF. For stable operation of the stroboscope, capacitor C5 must be with a low leakage current, for example, K53-1A, K53-18. The remaining oxide capacitors are of the K50-29 type. Capacitors C4, C6 - type K73-3. Fixed resistors, except for R1, - MLT, R1 - type VER. Thyristor VS1 can be replaced with KU202 with indices L-N. A properly assembled device practically does not need to be configured. If the elements are in good condition and there are no installation errors, it starts working immediately. On the plates of the capacitor C3 there must be a constant voltage of 280 ... 300 V. Attention! High-voltage capacitors in the device are able to retain charge for some time after being disconnected from the network, therefore, it is possible to work with circuit elements only after they are completely discharged.
