While on a camping trip or fishing trip, it is always advisable to have an electric flashlight with you. A flashlight with an ordinary incandescent bulb is extremely uneconomical and requires spare power supplies, which significantly increases the weight of the equipment.

With the onset of evening, having settled down for the night after a long hike or successful fishing, after having dinner, it is pleasant to relax in a tent, but in the dark it is somehow uncomfortable, it is uneconomical to burn an electric lantern. In this case, the proposed LED lamp, which has minimal dimensions and negligible weight, will help out. With it, you can illuminate the table during dinner, illuminate the road, and by switching to the night light mode, you can safely leave the tent without disturbing others.

The advantage of the lamp is that, despite its low weight, it can operate for a long time from one set of power supply. Power is supplied from one AA type galvanic cell; during the test, the cheapest battery was taken, costing 2-3 rubles. Continuous operation time of the lamp is approximately 20 hours at a constant brightness. The effect of a night light is achieved by switching the super-bright white LED to blue. To power the LEDs, a voltage converter is used, made according to the scheme of a single-cycle generator with inductive feedback on a transistor VT1 and a transformer T1.

The pulse voltage is rectified by the diode VD1, smoothed by the filter capacitor C3 and supplied through the switch SA2, depending on the selected mode, to the super-bright LED HL1 white or HL2 blue. Instead of a blue LED, you can use an orange one. Zener diode VD2 is designed to eliminate voltage surges at the time of switching SA2, which can damage the LEDs. The whole device is mounted on a board made of one-sided foil fiberglass with a thickness of 1-1,5 mm and a size of 43 * 35 mm.

The board is made according to a well-known method and after etching in a solution of ferric chloride, it is cleaned and tinned with solder. First of all, switches SA1 and SA2, as well as LEDs, are installed on the board, this is explained by the fact that the housing from the Chinese-made electromechanical watch mechanism is used as the case. The choice of this case satisfies all the parameters - small size, weight, and most importantly, it has a cassette for installing a battery. The printed circuit board with the switches and LEDs installed on it is placed in the case, having previously cleaned all the protrusions with a sharp knife and cut out the cutouts for the switch handles and holes for the LEDs, see the photo of the finished device.

Next, the remaining parts are mounted on the board. The voltage converter uses small parts. Resistors of the MLT-0,125 type, imported electrolytic capacitors, up to 5 mm high, with a higher height they should be placed horizontally on the board. As HL1, a super-bright white LED is used, HL2 is blue or orange. Switches SA1 and SA2 for two positions from the old imported radio equipment. The pulse transformer is wound on a ferrite ring of size K10 * 6 * 3mm with a magnetic permeability of 1000-2000. The ring is pre-turned around the edges so as not to damage the winding, it is also advisable to wrap the ring with a thin vinyl tape or tape. Both windings are wound with PEV-2 wire with a diameter of 0,31-0,4 mm.

The primary winding has 8 turns and the secondary has 11 turns. Beforehand, the transformer is soldered to the board pads and the performance of the converter is checked; if there is no voltage at the output, swap the leads of one of the windings. After checking the performance, the transformer is fixed on the board with hot glue.

The mounted board is inserted into the case and the power wires are soldered. The board in the case is also fixed with hot glue. The total current consumption of the lamp is - 14-15mA. The operation of the lamp during the summer season showed its efficiency and reliability. For the convenience of placing the lamp in the tent, in a convenient place, you can glue or sew a piece of the fastener, Velcro, the same piece is glued to the lamp body, simple and reliable fastening.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Geranium Gold 05.02.2004

Indian scientists from the National Chemical Laboratory found that the aromatic substances contained in the leaves of the common geranium, as well as the enzymes of a microscopic fungus living on these leaves as a symbiont, are able to restore gold from solutions of its salts. Moreover, the precious metal precipitates in the form of supermicroscopic balls, sticks and pyramids with a size of hundredths of a micron.

These gold particles can serve as details in microelectronic circuits and in nanotechnology in the near future. True, for this you will have to find a way to unify the shape of gold crystals or methods for selecting those that are suitable in shape and size.

Currently, gold is precipitated from solutions of its salts using chemical methods that are expensive and dangerous to the environment.
