ENCYCLOPEDIA OF RADIO ELECTRONICS AND ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING Method for manufacturing false panels. Encyclopedia of radio electronics and electrical engineering Encyclopedia of radio electronics and electrical engineering / Ham Radio Technologies It is no secret that any amateur radio equipment is evaluated not only by electrical characteristics, but also by appearance. I want to offer a method for making a beautiful false panel. The false panel is made of thin duralumin (0,5...1,0 mm). First, all the plumbing work is done: the holes are cut with a jigsaw (I don’t advise drilling thin duralumin, it bends and loses its appearance), they turn out to be very beautiful and even. It is necessary to drill only one, occasionally two holes for a jigsaw file with a diameter of 1,5 ... 2 mm. By the way, I recommend using a jigsaw to cut any holes and windows in aluminum alloys. We "sand" the edges and etch the panel in a solution of the "Krot" agent (a product for dissolving sewer pipe contaminants produced by the Grodno MGP-EMBA). Etching must be done very carefully and carefully, working with rubber gloves. The false panel is wetted with warm water, placed on the bottom of the bath or cuvettes, and a solution is applied to the panel with a foam rubber brush. Then it is turned over and the solution is applied to the other side. After applying the product to an aluminum alloy product, an intense reaction begins with the release of bubbles and a grayish foam. After one or two minutes, we wash off the solution and see how the color has changed and whether there are streaks. If there are no streaks, rinse the panel again and dry it. If there are streaks, this side is pickled again and thoroughly washed again. With some skill, you can get an absolutely uniform white matte surface that does not stain your hands and has a beautiful color. It is impossible to pickle many parts at the same time and keep them in the solution for more than 3 minutes. It should be said that not all aluminum alloys pickle well and equally, but in general the result is almost always positive. The dried false panel is covered with a primer with a foam roller and dried. Using the same roller, it is covered with paint of the selected color and dried for at least a day. You can also paint with a spray gun, which ultimately gives better results. Now the crucial moment. On the painted surface, in accordance with the sketch, letters and numbers are applied in any transfer font. There are a lot of different fonts in different sizes and with different symbols. If a letter or number sticks unevenly, you can remove it like this: wrap a little cotton wool around the tip of the match and lightly moisten the cotton wool with any alcohol, gently erase the letter (it will dissolve), trying not to touch neighboring letters and not to stain the panel much. For faster removal of an unnecessary letter, you can use a mixture of alcohol and acetone 1: 1. I do not advise you to use pure acetone, because. most paints dissolve well with it, which can leave visible marks on the panel. It is impossible to use a scalpel or blade to remove letters, the painted surface will inevitably be damaged and the false panel will lose its appearance. Further, the applied signs are dried for 3...4 hours and with the help of a foam rubber roller, the false panel is covered with a varnish for metal "Sadolin". The varnish dissolves with water and has a color similar to highly diluted PVA adhesives. I don’t advise you to cover with a brush - the varnish dries quickly, and uneven stripes are obtained. After the first layer has dried (3 hours), we cover it with a second, and if necessary, with a third layer. A day later, the false panel is ready. Lacquer "Sadolin" reliably protects both the false panel itself and the translated font, has an even matte shade, slightly muting the color of the panel. It is better to apply varnish with a roller. The entire surface of the roller is varnished (dipped or brushed). On a clean piece of any plastic, the roller is "rolled out" until a homogeneous surface appears, and only then the panel is slowly covered with this roller. Care must be taken not to form many bubbles. If they appear, it is necessary to "roll out" the roller again and repeat the application of varnish on the false panel. From the moment you start painting with varnish, all operations must be done quickly, given that the varnish dries quickly enough, especially if applied in a thin layer. Author: N.
