Do not make yourself an idol

Phraseologism: Do not make yourself an idol.
Meaning: Do not worship, do not imitate anyone blindly, as a pagan worships an idol.
Origin: From the Bible (Church Slavonic text). In the Old Testament (Exodus, ch. 20, v. 4), the second commandment is given from that set of commandments that the prophet Moses received from God on Mount Sinai and by which the people of Moses were to live (Russian translation): "Do not do to yourself an idol and no image of what I honor in heaven above, and honor on the earth below, and honor in the water below the earth. There were 10 commandments in total.
