AOC technology will reduce the harm of monitors to vision

Renowned display manufacturer AOC has unveiled a new technology that protects users' eyesight from the harmful effects of blue light from their LED-backlit screen. The developers have already filed an application for a patent registration of their invention, which received the uncomplicated name Anti-Blue Light (ABL).

Thanks to the new technology, the peak value of the wavelength emitted by the backlight has been increased from 450 to 460 nm. According to the AOC, even such a slight change allows the blue component to be taken out of the "dangerous" range. The "dangerous" range is considered to be wavelengths from 380 to 450 nm. When working for a long time at the monitor, they have a detrimental effect on vision.

Despite the reduction in backlight intensity, overall image quality does not suffer when using this technology. The technology does not use any additional filters and software, and the suppression of "dangerous" waves does not lead to color imbalance. AOC plans to introduce its new product to the 76V Series monitors.

It remains to wait for the development details in order to understand how it is better than other solutions. For example, the Philips SoftBlue monitors presented at IFA 2014 also protect viewers from "harmful" radiation and, like in AOC ABL, everything here is done at the level of the LED backlight controller. There are other examples of implementation.
