TOURIST ADVICE
Velovyuk. Travel Tips It must be said bluntly that a bicycle is not suitable for carrying luggage. Meanwhile, this has to be done quite often. For example, you can’t do without luggage when going on a weekend hike on a bike, and even more so on a bike tour. Even when going fishing, you need to put supplies somewhere. So at first I loaded things into a regular backpack. But he rode not on a bicycle, but on me. I tried to fasten the backpack to the trunk, placing a suitable sheet of plywood so that its edges do not hang down and do not touch the knitting needles. But when moving, he strove to move sideways. And every time you need to get something out of it. I had to untie and then retie. And when I got tired of all this, I decided to supply the bike bicycle pack a special capacious and quick-release bag that would be securely held on a bicycle trunk without special fastening. Yes, and that access to it would be easy. The most suitable material for a bicycle bag from the available one turned out to be rubberized synthetic fabric "teza" from an old body awning of a fugue car. Of course, it could be sewn from leather, leatherette or waterproof nylon fabric. Moreover, each part also does not have to be one-piece, but you can make them composite by aligning the joints with the bend lines. The dimensions of the bike pack were determined by the dimensions of the bicycle trunk. But the design (or, perhaps, it would be more correct to call the model, since it is not a machine, and not a mechanism, but a garment) was developed by myself, thinking over how best to install a bike bag on the trunk and easier to mount on it. Therefore, the bottom of the bag turned out to be stepped. And in order to make it convenient to put the bike bag on the trunk and take it off, and also, if necessary, carry it in your arms from place to place, I decided to equip it with handles, like an ordinary bag. It seems to me that the bicycle bag looks like a country house with a broken, truncated roof and a rectangular tunnel in the middle, and therefore I will name its details according to the corresponding structural elements of the house: roof, walls, gables, etc. The manufacture of the design-model began with marking and cutting the material into separate parts according to the dimensions of the future product, with a nose of 10 mm allowances on all sides to be sewn, The pack was sewn on a Singer sewing machine, model 1900. In my opinion, she still has no equal in the matter of stitching dense and thick materials. But I think that domestic Podolsk machines are also capable of sewing the “thesis”. I used strong threads - No. 10, and sewed double seams. Since the material is rubberized, in order to reduce friction along the connection of the canvases, it was necessary to moisten its surface under the clamping folder with water.
Sewing began from the very top of the bag - I'll call it the roof. I made a longitudinal slot in it and sewed a "lightning" lock into it. The lock used with rather large metal teeth. To the short edges of the roof, hanging on the end walls, I attached the edges of the tunnel ceiling, and the edges of the walls to the gables, inserting from both ends, near the bottom, a pair of loops from a nylon peta. The upper parts of the gables were sewn to the overhangs of the roof. Then he proceeded to the final operation of joining the remaining two large canvases to the already sewn elements. These canvases form the bevels of the roof, its side walls and the bottom of the bike pack. But first, it is desirable to sew reflective orange (or at least white) stripes to the canvases, and red ones to the already sewn end ones. Unfortunately, I didn't have any at the time. I tried on the canvases in their places and stitched them with a thin white (for contrast) thread, because this is just a technological seam, and the thread is removed after the final sewing. Where there was excess fabric, he made small assemblies, distributing them along the entire length. After that, I stitched almost along the perimeter of large canvases, with the exception of their upper edges. Before stitching the upper edges of these canvases with the roof, I inserted the ends of the handles from nylon tape into the joints. The resulting shapeless bag did not much resemble the intended product, but after turning it inside out, it turned out to be a good and roomy bike bag. During the operation, the need for small pockets was revealed, which I later sewed on. Above them, I also sewed valve covers to protect the contents from rain. But everyone can sew on pockets at their own discretion, so I don’t even show them in the drawing. The bike bag is quickly and easily (literally with one movement of the hand) installed on a bicycle trunk, sits confidently and is attached to it with a standard clamp, and is additionally attracted to the frame with a rope through the loops. Access inside is also not difficult.
