If you need to determine the shortest distance between two objects on the ground, you need to measure the distance between their image on the map with a ruler. The resulting distance in centimeters should be multiplied by numerical map scale (for example, 6 cm on a 1:50 map corresponds to 000 km on the ground).

You can also use linear scale. To do this, the meter fixes the distance between the two desired points on the map, and then simply align the meter needles with the linear scale of the map.

To measure the distance along a winding line - for example, the distance along a winding road, path or river, you need to use curvimeter. Using it is quite simple. Set the odometer needle to "0" and, holding the odometer vertically, roll the wheels of the odometer along the measured line. Then the curvimeter readings should be multiplied by the numerical scale of the map.

In the absence of a curvimeter, you can use a cord, a piece of wire or rope, laying it on the path, then straighten it and combine it with a linear scale or ruler. Of course, this method does not allow taking into account all the bends of the path, so another ~10% should be added to the result.

If the map has a kilometer grid, the easiest way to estimate the distance is by counting the squares separating the points of interest. Remember that the diagonal length of kilometer squares is approximately 1,4 km.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

Growth of the precision farming market 31.10.2014

According to Marketsand Markets, between 2014 and 2020. the average annual growth rate (CAGR) of the precision farming market, which is based on Earth remote sensing (ERS) technologies, will be 12,2%. By 2020, its volume will reach $4,55 billion.

Analysts at Marketsand Markets predict that the precision farming market will reach $2020 billion by 4,55. Between 2014 and 2020. it will grow by an average of 12,2% per year.

Precision farming methods are based on land yield monitoring applications, soil monitoring technologies, crop exploration, intelligent fertilizer systems, robots, irrigation system control systems, etc.

Growing demand for food is forcing farmers to embrace new technologies such as cloud GIS, drones and satellite monitoring. This reduces costs and improves work efficiency.

The Marketsand Markets report notes that the most intensive growth of the precision farming market is expected in the Asia-Pacific region, where the population is growing most rapidly. Also, the introduction of geoinformation technologies for agriculture is actively developing in North America.

While the North American market is growing thanks to the renewal of the technological basis of agriculture, in Asia, South America and Europe strong growth is driven by the introduction of innovations in the early stages of the life cycle. In particular, the regional markets of Brazil, Argentina, some countries in Eastern Europe and China are experiencing double-digit growth due to the introduction of the latest geospatial technologies such as Farm Management Systems (FMS).

The basis for the development of the precision farming market is the desire of farmers to reduce costs and receive additional income. Government support programs that are aimed at increasing the production of strategically important food raw materials contribute to the growth of the market. At the same time, according to Marketsand Markets experts, the main problems of the market are related to the high cost of initial investments in geoinformation technologies for precision agriculture. Many farmers, already limited in funds due to the seasonal nature and high risk of doing agricultural business, have nowhere to get funds for the introduction of innovative technologies. In addition, agricultural workers often lack the information and knowledge to find, deploy and operate the systems they need.
