In the magazine "Radio", 2001, No. 5, p. 54 in fig. 4 was a diagram of a voltage converter based on a blocking generator, proposed by V. Polyakov and tested by him with a supply voltage of 6 V.

I tested this converter at a supply voltage of 1,2 V (from one nickel-cadmium battery). Transformer T1 was made exactly as described in the article. For ease of use, some improvements were made to the circuit: in parallel with the input, to reduce impulse pickups along the supply circuit, an oxide capacitor C1 and a ceramic capacitor C2 are connected (see figure).

To provide the ability to adjust the duty cycle of the pulses and, as a result, the output voltage, the transistor base bias circuit resistor is made up of three series-connected - constant R1 and two variables R2 (smooth adjustment) and R3 (coarse adjustment).

A load resistor R4 and a three-section low-pass filter made on RC elements are connected to the rectifier output. We replace the VT1 transistor with KT315B, and the VD1 diode with KD510A. To attenuate the emission of interference into the surrounding space, the converter is placed in a metal shield.

The test results of the converter are as follows. With the help of variable resistors R2 and R3, it was possible to set any voltage at the output in the range from 2 to 9,5 V. This turned out to be enough to use the 109 V KB varicap to rebuild the LC circuit with a total capacitance of 100 pF within one KB broadcasting range . At the same time, the current consumed by the device from a 1,2 V source was 25 μA at an output voltage of 2 V and 0,8 mA when the output was 9,5 V.
