dugout boat made from aspen or poplar.

A log 40 m long is cut from a tree with a diameter of 50-4 cm. They clean it from the bark and trim both ends, giving the future boat a spindle shape. Then, along the entire log, every 10 cm, longitudinal and transverse lines are marked and at the intersection they are checked with a 5 mm gimlet or holes are burned with a nail on the sides to a depth of 2,5-3 cm, and at the bottom by 4-3 cm. a corresponding length peg made of pine bark or wooden, painted with bright paint.

After that, two notches 20 cm wide each and a groove 10 cm wide between them are cut through in the upper part of the log. The core is cut through them with an ax and an oval adze and a chisel. You need to hammer until crumbs of pine bark or painted pegs appear in the chips. Thanks to this, the sides and bottom of the shuttle are obtained with the desired thickness.

When the entire middle of the log is selected, the future boat is turned upside down, installed on a goat or on chocks, and a smoldering fire is built under it for the entire length, trying to steam the wood well. An hour later, when it becomes pliable, it is slightly bred 10-15 cm to the sides and burst with chopsticks. The boat is poured with boiling water and after half an hour - an hour it is still bred by 10-15 cm and bursting with longer sticks. So, pouring boiling water and heating with a smoldering fire from below, the steamed shuttle is bred to a width of 80-100 cm and then fixed with frames, transverse struts made of curved birch branches in accordance with the size of the divorced shuttle.

The finished boat is dried in the sun, while outside it is tarred. They do not make oarlocks in it, but float with the help of a one- (two-bladed) oar or pole.

The sides can be built up with boards, then the displacement and carrying capacity of the boat will rise.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Life on Mars 21.11.2001

Hungarian scientists believe that, having studied 60 photographs of the surface of Mars taken by the Global Surveyor spacecraft, they have found signs of the existence of life on the Red Planet. In photographs of the south polar region of Mars, they noticed groups of rounded dark spots against the background of ice fields. The diameter of the spots is from ten to several hundred meters.

Hungarian biologists suggest that organisms live under the surface of the ice, using the energy of the Sun and melting the ice during the Martian summer, which is why dark spots appear - oases of life.
