PERSONAL TRANSPORT: GROUND, WATER, AIR
Microcar Crab. Personal transport Directory / Personal transport: land, water, air This is a two-seater, sports-type microcar with a convertible body. During its construction, components and parts of the VP-150M Vyatka scooter were used to the maximum. The machine turned out to be compact and maneuverable, simple and inexpensive to manufacture, unpretentious in operation and maintenance. Despite the relatively low engine power, the car has good throttle response. The three-wheel scheme, layout and equipment are made in accordance with the technical requirements of the traffic police. The microcar is distinguished by good stability and ease of control. Such a machine, in our opinion, can be used as a city or tourist transport, and equipped with additional pedals, it will become a convenient simulator for children's car parks and highways. The body is all-metal. For the first time in the practice of amateur auto construction, it is made as a carrier. Closed box and tunnel are made of 1,2 mm thick steel sheet. The rear stand of the body is also made of 1 mm thick sheet steel. Trunk, bumper, roll bar and front axle pipes - Ø 28 mm. For the windshield frame, a pipe Ø 43 mm was used, and the glass itself was taken from a ZAZ-965 car. The hood of the microcar turned out from the narrowed and shortened hood of the GAZ-51 car.
The front part of the body (bottom) is a part of the gas tank from the Kovrovets motorcycle, with a welded insert made of sheet iron 1 mm thick. The back of the car is completely from the Vyatka scooter, only the casing and trunk have been removed. Here we were attracted by the compactness of the motor unit; the absence of a chain drive in the drive, which is more reliable; easy access for repair and maintenance, installation and dismantling, for assembly and adjustments. The front fenders are made from the rear mudguards of the Tula scooter (cutouts for the drive chain are welded); they are attached to the body by welding on pipes Ø 18 mm. For the "Crab" used the front suspension "Vyatka". A similar suspension was in our very first car "Tourist-1", a participant in the parade-competition of home-made auto-motor designs in 1966 - it has proven itself very well. "Crab" once again confirmed this. The steering gear of the "Crab" is from the ZAZ-965 car. The steering wheel rim is self-made, safety, the hub is deeply recessed. The driver and passenger feel comfortable on deep anatomical fiberglass seats, upholstered in leatherette and foam rubber; the backrests are supplemented with "shoulders" attached to the rear wall of the body (not shown in the photographs). The seats recline forward to reveal the carburetor and air intake filter. The headlights on the car are from a C3A motorized stroller, but with improved glasses (Zhiguli -2103, -2106), for which the rims had to be filed a little. Stop lamp, license plate lighting - motorcycle type. The side marker lights on the rear wall with direction indicators are located in the widest part of the vehicle and are equally visible from the front and rear. Thanks to this, it was possible to get by with just two pointers from the Izh motorcycle. This is important, given the weakness of the generator and battery taken from Vyatka. The rest of the lighting and signaling devices are also made in accordance with the requirements for home-made cars.
In front of the car, under the hood, there is a Vyatka rectifier and a battery. Here is the trunk. The car is equipped with a windshield wiper driven both from the front wheel (the drive is interlocked with the speedometer drive) and manually. Decorative caps on the collegues - from a motorized stroller - are made with annular slots, which, in our opinion, makes the wheels more dynamic. The microcar is also equipped with a spare wheel located on the frame of the rear trunk. Color: bright red body with black and white stripes and indexes; seats - red base, upholstery - black, head restraints - red; body inside - black; wheel rims - light gray, caps - bright yellow with black rims. The windshield framing and the rear safety arc are made in such a way that an easily removable awning and two light doors made of tarpaulin or leatherette can be installed on a microcar. In this case, the comfort of the car increases, it becomes all-weather. The VP-150 engine, mounted on a microcar, develops a power of 6 liters. With. and allows the car to go at speeds up to 75 km / h. The brake drive is mechanical, on all three wheels. There is also a parking brake - on the rear wheel. "Crab" has successfully passed all-round and lengthy tests, and has proven itself well. Author: V.
