When adjusting the flow rate using a metering needle, the amount of oil entering the crankcase of the engine changes due to a change in the flow area of ​​the jet. In principle, the same can be done without changing the flow area of ​​the jet, but only by selecting the viscosity of the oil flowing through a channel of constant cross section. This method is somewhat simpler and more reliable than the first, since the adjusting needle can always turn away, and after a couple of kilometers all the oil from the tank will literally “go down the pipe”. The new dispenser is a capillary channel - a tube with an inner diameter of 0,5-0,8 and a length of 20-30 mm, soldered into the fitting of the oil tank. If there are no tubes with such parameters, then you can use a thicker one, for example, with an inner diameter of 1 mm, and insert a wire 0,4-0,5 mm thick into it. To ensure a strict ratio of oil and gasoline in the fuel mixture, the viscosity of the oil is selected, for which it is diluted with gasoline. Approximate oil consumption in this case should be 0,5-1 cm3 per kilometer at a speed of 50-60 km/h. If you carefully consider the experimental selection of oil viscosity and carefully record the quantitative ratios of gasoline and oil, then in the future for each brand of oil you can know the amount of gasoline with which you need to dilute it. After all, the viscosity should be optimal for a capillary of a given cross section and length.

Taking this opportunity, I also want to supplement my previous material on the dispenser with an adjusting needle. Many readers are interested in how to prevent oil from entering the crankcase when it is not working - in parking lots. So, I don’t have any mechanical shutter - faucet or valve. It's just that the oil line is routed so that the hose passes above the oil level in the tank, as shown in the figure.

The quantitative ratios of oil and gasoline were also not entirely clear. The fact is that both the fuel tank and the oil tank use a mixture of gasoline and oil. The ratio of gasoline to oil in the fuel tank is 100:1, but pure gasoline can also be used. In the oil tank, the ratio of gasoline and oil should be such that the viscosity of the mixture is approximately the same as that of transformer oil.

Well, if the volume of the oil tank is about 250 cm3, which is enough for 250-500 km. It is desirable that this container be translucent (for example, made of plastic) and have clear marks on it indicating the volume of liquid - this is easier when setting up the dosing system.

And the last. The fitting of the dosing device and the fitting on the carburetor nozzle are connected by a polyvinyl pipe with an inner diameter of 6-8 mm. On the carburetor nozzle, the fitting is located on top, if possible next to the cylinder. Under it, a threaded hole M8 is drilled in the pipe, the inner diameter of the hole in the fitting is 4 mm.

In the Arizona desert near Phoenix, industrial tests of the most powerful solar power plant Solana have ended.

Solana is one of the largest solar power plants in the world and can deliver up to 280 MW. But, besides this, the power plant has a unique feature: it can accumulate solar heat and generate electricity within 6 hours after sunset. The new heat storage technology is a huge step forward for solar energy, as uneven power generation is one of the main disadvantages of solar energy.

The Solana power plant is an array of 2700 parabolic mirrors, the troughs of which occupy a surface of 7,7 square meters. km. Mirrors concentrate sunlight on tubes in which a liquid heat carrier - synthetic oil - circulates. The coolant heated by sunlight enters the steam boilers and heats the water, which, in turn, turns into steam and turns 140-MW turbines.

Solana is equipped with a thermal energy storage system: special containers where heated oil is stored. This allows the production of clean energy at maximum capacity for six hours. In normal operation, the power plant is able to meet the energy needs of consumers during peak hours in the morning and early evening. At present, Solana at its peak capacity can provide energy to about 70000 households. In the future, 4 more similar power plants will appear in Arizona, and the total generated capacity will increase to 750 MW, which is enough to power 185 households.
