I. General Provisions

The laboratory assistant belongs to the category of specialists.
A person with a secondary medical education is appointed to the position of a laboratory assistant.
Appointment to the position of a laboratory assistant and dismissal from it is carried out by order of the head of the institution.
The laboratory assistant must know:

microbiological diagnostics of major infectious diseases;
fundamentals of sanitary and microbiological research;
methods of general clinical, biochemical, hematological and cytological laboratory studies;
methods of sanitary and hygienic research of environmental objects;
sanitary and hygienic standards and the mode of operation of the laboratory;
technique for conducting laboratory research using laboratory equipment;
labor legislation;
rules of internal labor regulations;
rules and norms of labor protection, safety measures, industrial sanitation and fire protection.

II. Official duties

Laboratory assistant:

Conducts laboratory studies under the guidance of a doctor and independently prepares laboratory equipment, reagents, chemical glassware, nutrient media, coloring and disinfecting solutions for their conduct.
Accepts and registers the biological material received for the study, checks the compliance of its packaging and delivery time with the necessary requirements.
It checks the suitability of the material received for the study, the correctness of the execution of the accompanying documentation.
Prepares standard and working solutions for calibrating instruments, nutrient media, reagents, paints and disinfectants.
Sterilizes laboratory instruments, glassware, etc.
Sends the test results to the doctor.
Follows the instructions on safety and industrial sanitation, fire safety, the mode of work with pathogens of 1-4 pathogenicity groups, the activities of a medical institution in extreme conditions.
Comply with the internal regulations of the institution.
Provides first aid in emergencies.

III. Rights

The laboratory assistant has the right:

Obtain the information necessary for the quality performance of assigned tasks.
Make suggestions to the management on improving the organization and conduct of laboratory research.
Improve your qualifications, pass certification for the assignment of a qualification category.
Participate in conferences, meetings, professional medical associations.

IV. A responsibility

The laboratory assistant is responsible for:

For improper performance or non-performance of their official duties provided for by this Job Description - within the limits determined by the current labor legislation of Ukraine.
For offenses committed in the course of carrying out their activities - within the limits determined by the current administrative, criminal and civil legislation of Ukraine.
For causing material damage - within the limits determined by the current labor and civil legislation of Ukraine.
