The magazines have repeatedly published designs of micromotorcycles based on parts for children's bicycles and D-5 and D-6 motors, but mainly for summer use. My friend and I decided to create a car that could be driven both in summer and winter.

The frame was taken from the Shkolnik bicycle, the ears - from the children's bicycle "Bunny", the motor - D-6. In order for our moped to be used on winter roads, we decided to cover the tires. Of course, we did not have the opportunity to make special spikes, so we simply used the M5 bolts at hand, giving them the required shape with a file. How we installed the spikes can be seen from the attached diagram. Tests have shown that such a simple solution fully justifies itself: the drive wheel does not slip even on ice. Therefore, we decided to share our humble experience.

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Wireless charging from Intel 21.08.2012

Intel, the world's largest semiconductor supplier, plans to integrate support for wireless mobile charging into chips it makes for laptops. The company plans to do so in the second half of 2013 and use technology it has developed itself, according to DigiTimes, citing supply chains.

Intel wireless charging technology is planned to equip ultrabooks and smartphones with Intel processors. The technology will use an ultrabook as a power source, complete with appropriate software and a "transmitter" that will charge the smartphone "over the air".
According to Intel's specifications, the technology will have low power consumption, while the smartphone can be placed near the laptop in any position, and not some special one, specifies DigiTimes.

In addition to the technology itself, Intel offers options for placing the necessary components in a laptop and smartphone. The company offers streamlined design solutions that will allow third-party manufacturers to add support for wireless charging at a minimal cost.

Wireless charging technology is already in some products. For example, in some models of Sharp smartphones for the Japanese operator NTT DoCoMo, as well as in the Palm Pre smartphone. Samsung Electronics planned to release a wireless charger in June, but the project was postponed until the end of this year or early next year due to the need for improvement.

As early as 2008, Intel Corporation demonstrated its interest in wireless power transmission. As part of the Intel Developer Forum conference, scientists showed an installation that transmitted energy at a distance of 60-90 cm, sufficient to power a 60 W lamp. Once again, the company staged a demonstration at the Computex exhibition in June 2012. And this time, Intel showed an almost ready-made solution integrated into a laptop. The power of the system was 3 W, which is quite enough to charge a mobile phone. An example of a tandem was shown based on an Acer Aspire ultrabook and an Android smartphone.
