Chapter 8 Spy things

It happens that a permanent cache arranged in the house suddenly becomes unreliable or inaccessible. For example, you are waiting for a search, and we have already said that professional and determined search masters can find almost everything that can be found.

You need to "reset" what you are hiding so no one will find it. There are several ways to do this, and each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages. Keep in mind that most of these methods can only be used on small, light items.

8.1. Luggage storage

There are self-service lockers at every train, bus or airport terminal. You toss the token, dial in the code, put down your package and leave.

The advantages of this method are low cost and speed. There is no need for any preliminary preparation, you just need to enter, put the package in the storage room and leave. However, these cameras often have a limited shelf life. First, find out exactly how long you can leave your things. Sometimes this is written right on the cell of the camera or at the entrance to the room where they are located.

If the camera is at an airport and you need to hide contraband, be extremely careful. Carefully study all approaches to the camera. If the camera is located in the airport lounge behind the security checkpoint, it is best not to use it. And even if the path to the camera does not lead past the checkpoint, there is still some risk. Often the transport police at the airport have dogs trained for explosives, and if it is an international airport, customs officers work with dogs trained for drugs. A dog walking down the hallway with its handler can make a stand near your locker box. In addition, some airports routinely allow dogs to sniff lockers looking for contraband

In addition, self-service cells are small in size. You can put only one or two suitcases there.

8.2. Send yourself a message

One way to temporarily get rid of a dangerous item is to mail it to yourself. It will be lost in the channels of the postal service for quite a considerable time - from several days to several weeks, depending on the class of service. The parcel department is the slowest, and if sent by first class, the shipment can take only a week. The maximum weight that can be sent by mail in Russia is 8 kg.

Turning to the post office, you give your valuables to the care of the government of the country. This is one of the most common, if not very efficient, ways. Besides, it is not too expensive.

This is a completely safe and non-public way to keep a bag of papers or something else away from you for a while.

Your safety can only be threatened if you are tracked when you first arrive at a delivery point or when you pick up mail. Another danger is if you pay by check or credit card. Cash is more likely to keep you anonymous.

But here, too, there are drawbacks. First, it is easy to see that what you send to yourself at your home address will be returned to you. And if your house is under surveillance, the negative result of the enterprise is guaranteed to you.

You can send a message to a friend. But this may not be so easy either. You will have to arrange in advance with a friend whom you can trust, and there are not so many people who can be trusted in a very dangerous situation. A friend will want to know what kind of envelope or package he will receive. What will you tell him? Maybe it is better to use a service that does not show: curiosity?

8.3. Delivery service

Another way to send a package to yourself is to entrust it to a delivery service such as UPS. There are branches of this service in every major city in Russia, and in the simplest case, the parcel will be stored in this office until demand if you address it to Ivanov Ivan Ivanovich.

However, in order to receive the parcel, you need to present an identity document. If you sent it under a fictitious name, this is already problematic. Perhaps you are on one of the "Wanted ..." lists, and using your real name would be extremely imprudent. There is another difficulty: the delivery service department stores the parcel only for a limited time. After that, it is either returned to the sender, or sent to the office of unclaimed items. In the first case, you may be charged an additional fee for the cost of returning the package.

8.4. P.O. box

Another way is to subscribe to a mailbox. You can shoot the smallest one, because if the parcel does not fit in it, they will leave a note for you that it can be received in the "issue" window. Of course, if you regularly receive large parcels, you may be asked to subscribe to a larger box. Post boxes are usually of two types: 150x150x400 mm and 180x180x440 mm in size.

The big advantage of a P.O.

This method also has a major drawback: the law does not allow you to rent a PO box in a fictitious name, and when you draw up a contract, the work-peak mail will ask you to show an identity card. So, if you need anonymity, this method is not suitable.

8.5. Points for receiving correspondence

There is a service industry in the service industry that deliberately and professionally shows no curiosity about its customers. These are mailing points.

Such a service is also referred to as a "demand address", "secret address", or the like. This is a place where you can receive your mail by any name. This service is used to:

  • receive mail secretly from household members;
  • receive mail without the sender knowing your home address.

The reasons why such a service is used can be very different. They are not always illegal. Some clients use an anonymous address for sexual correspondence. Others are engaged in various fraudulent tricks. Still others receive answers to newspaper ads at this address.

Point operators do not ask anything until the customers themselves want to tell them, because they understand that the goals of some customers are illegal. They operate on the principle of "the less you know, the better you sleep." Knowing about illegal activities, they would become accomplices, so they prefer to keep quiet. As long as you pay, they serve you without being interested in your documents.

A private address of this kind costs much more than a PO box at the post office. Additional services, such as shipping to another address, may require an additional fee, or may be taken only at the cost of expenses for envelopes and stamps

Sometimes these services themselves work through PO boxes. This gives them an anonymity that some people don't like. Sometimes they give a city address without emphasizing the anonymity aspect. If the point has a regular address, it can receive packages sent through the parcel service or other commercial companies. They generally do not accept PO Boxes.

The main advantage of such points is that the operator will do whatever you say while paying the fee. This means that he will keep your package for as long as you ask, or send it to another address after a while if you give him such instructions. In general, operators do not like to keep mail for a long time, some ask to pick it up no later than a week later. However, if you have paid the fee and the postage is not too bulky, they will most likely agree to keep it for as long as it takes. If you need to store something for a long time, make arrangements ahead of time. For example, tell the operator that you spend most of your time abroad and therefore do not have a permanent address here. You are willing to pay for many months in advance, but you will not be able to collect mail regularly. If you are decently dressed and neatly trimmed at the same time, there will be no problems.

8.6. Mini warehouses

If you need to store something bulky or heavy, use the services of warehouses. Many warehouses rent premises for a fee, which depends on the region of the country and on the size of the premises. The smallest of them have an area of about four square meters. The room can be much larger, and if you need to store too much, rent several rooms.

Since these are private enterprises, their employees are guided by the same principles as the operators of the points of receipt of correspondence. They don't want to know what you do, they're only interested in rent. They won't necessarily ask you to show documents, but they will often ask you to sign a contract that may include "legal items of storage."

It is also possible to privately rent a garage or container at a railway station or port.

8.7. Cell in the bank

If you want to securely hide an item, then use the services of a bank. By presenting your passport at the bank and drawing up an appropriate agreement, you can rent a safe deposit box. The rental price depends on the size and ranges from 0,5 to 1 dollar per day.

After signing the contract, bypassing numerous guards, you go down to the depository - the room where the cells are located.

A bank employee in your presence opens the box, which contains a lock and two keys. Then, also in your presence, the lock is installed in the cell, and the keys are given to you. After this procedure, bank employees are removed, and you can put an item intended for storage in a cell.

It should be noted that the protection of your property is carried out not only by security guards, but also by the most modern electronic systems.

In various banks, the storage conditions, cost and range of services differ from those given above, therefore, after deciding on the establishment of a personal safe deposit box, we recommend calling several banks.

At the request of the client, some banks provide the possibility of registering a safe deposit box for two people with the same rights to use it. Sometimes you can issue a notarized power of attorney to use the safe by another person. This is especially handy when you don't want to be seen at the bank.
