Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Gigabit Powerline - a chip for home networks through electrical wiring 19.11.2013

Qualcomm Atheros unveiled the HomePlug AV2 transceiver for Powerline networks in Amsterdam, which enables Gigabit connectivity in the home using existing electrical wiring.

The QCA7500 chip was tested at gigabit data rates for home IPTV, OTT (Internet Video Delivery) and Video on Demand (VOD), "expanding Wi-Fi connections throughout the home." The QCA7500 chip supports the HomePlug AV2 standard, is compatible with HomePlug AV and Green PHY devices, and complies with the requirements of international recommendations for Powerline networks.

According to Todd Antes, vice president of product management at Qualcomm Atheros, "HomePlug AV2 MIMO-enabled devices provide significantly better transfer rates and coverage than other Powerline devices."

The HomePlug AV2 standard features improved peak data rate and a large coverage area provided by MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) signal spatial coding with beamforming and the use of additional spectrum, which allows you to increase the throughput of the device using multiple half-duplex streams. The AV2 standard contains mechanisms for effective harmonic suppression to meet various regulatory requirements.

Qualcomm Atheros introduced the QCA7500 chip at the Broadband World Forum in Amsterdam. The appearance of commercial samples of the chip is expected in the first quarter of 2014.
