Takako
Takako: 1 - longitudinal section of the fetus; 2 - fetus; 3 - seed

Cucurbit plant from Costa Rica with edible fruits, 4-6 cm long and 2,5 cm in diameter, green in color, with thorns at the top.

This cucurbit, closely related to chayote, with similar but much smaller fruit, is the Central American tacaco. Its flattened berries have the contours of a wide spindle. They have 5 deep and narrow longitudinal grooves, and at the base there are large pointed warts.

The size of the fruit is 7 x 4,5 x 3,5 cm. Their thin, dark brown-green peel is covered with numerous small, comma-shaped, whitish, mild warts. The dense, juicy pulp of the fruit has a greenish-white color, tastes and smells like a cucumber.

The berry contains one flat seed in the form of a wide spindle up to 4 x 2,5 x 0,6 cm in size. Unripe fruits are boiled or stewed like a vegetable - often with meat.

Takako is a thermophilic plant. For normal growth and development, it needs a temperature not lower than 20 ° C. The most favorable temperature is 27-28 ° C. When it drops to 0 ° C, the stems and leaves of the plant are damaged, and when frosts (minus 2-3 ° C) - fruits .

The optimum temperature for germination of takako seeds is 18-20°C; at temperatures below 12-15°C, they do not germinate.

Seeds (one in each fruit) have an oval shape, narrowed towards both ends.

Unripe fruits are eaten.

Latest news of science and technology, new electronics:

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Sports car turns into a speedboat 23.09.2003

Gibbs Technologies' Aquada Sports Amphibian, which can transform into a speedboat at the push of a button, has been tested on the Thames.

The convertible, which develops speeds of up to 180 km / h on land, uses a water cannon in the floating version. Thanks to him, on the water it accelerates to a speed of 50 km / h. It takes only 10 seconds to hide the wheels in the body, turn on the engine and move through the water. To enter the water, the new car needs a slight gentle slope, although on the beach, for example, it can drive directly into the sea without additional devices.

The hybrid, which is scheduled for serial production at the end of this year, is not cheap: the retail price will be approximately 150 euros.
