Solandra, Solandra grandiflora. Tips for growing, harvesting and storing

cultivated and wild plants. Legends, myths, symbolism, description, cultivation, methods of application

Saltwort (Solandra grandiflora) is a large climbing shrub that grows in tropical regions. Its attractive flowers are strongly scented and can reach a length of up to 30 cm.

Tips for growing, harvesting and storing saltwort:

Cultivation:

  • Solyandra loves sunny places, but places with translucent shading are best for her.
  • It also needs well-drained soil that is reasonably fertile and rich in organic matter.
  • Solyandra needs regular watering, especially during the period of growth and flowering. But do not overwater the soil, this can lead to root rot.
  • In order for the saltwort to grow well and bloom, it must be fed with fertilizers throughout the entire growing season.
  • Saltwort can grow up to 7 meters high and up to 5 meters wide, so be sure to provide enough space for it.

Workpiece:

  • Cut the flowers of the solandra at an early stage of flowering, when they are not yet fully opened.
  • You can use garden shears or sharp knives to harvest flowers. Trim the flowers as close to the base of the stem as possible.
  • Flowers can be used to create beautiful bouquets or to decorate your home. They can also be used for medicinal purposes as they contain alkaloids that may have medicinal effects.

Storage:

  • Freshly cut flowers of saltandra can be stored in water for up to 5-7 days.
  • To increase the shelf life, place the flowers in a plastic bag and close it for a while. This will help keep the moisture and freshness of the flowers.
  • Do not store flowers in the refrigerator or freezer as this can damage them.

Saltwood flowers are large and bright yellow, but also very toxic. Never consume or use saline in cooking or medicine without special training and expertise.

Saltwood can be dangerous to pets and children, so contact with the plant should be avoided.

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Dual GPU Nvidia Tesla K80 26.11.2014

Nvidia has unveiled a new solution for the Nvidia Tesla Accelerated Computing Platform, the Tesla K80 dual-GPU graphics accelerator.

The accelerator is designed for a wide range of applications, including machine learning, data analysis, scientific and high performance computing (HPC). The Tesla K80 has nearly twice the performance and twice the memory bandwidth of its predecessor, the Tesla K40.

The Tesla K80 has been designed for the toughest computing challenges in areas such as astrophysics, genomics, quantum chemistry, data analysis and more. It is also optimized for advanced "deep learning" tasks, one of the fastest growing areas in the machine learning industry.

The Tesla K80 compute speed is up to 8,74 teraflops for single precision floating point and 2,91 teraflops for double precision. According to the company, the Tesla K80 is ten times faster than the fastest CPUs in scientific and engineering applications such as Amber, Gromacs, Quantum Espresso and LSMS.

Among the key features of the Tesla K80 dual-processor accelerator: two GPUs on board - twice the data transfer rate in applications that use the capabilities of multiple GPUs; 24 GB of ultra-fast GDDR5 memory - 12 GB of GPU memory (double that of the Tesla K40) can handle twice the datasets; 480GB/s bandwidth - increased bandwidth allows scientists to process petabytes of information twice as fast compared to the Tesla K10; 4992 parallel CUDA cores - accelerate applications up to 10 times compared to the CPU; dynamic Nvidia GPU Boost technology - dynamically changes GPU frequencies depending on the specific applications for maximum performance; dynamic parallelism - allows GPU threads to dynamically spawn new threads for fast and easy data processing in adaptive and dynamic structures.

Tesla K80 will be able to find application in scientific, engineering, commercial and enterprise HPC and data center applications.
